I've been using Hammer Gel for years. 5 shot flasks (I don't like individual wrapper waste).
Been feeling the legs go as you go farther down the road? Pushed a little too hard on the hills and losing the energy to get back to town? Follow directions on bottle and use regularly.
In trouble and need SAG support? Bottle of H20 and dose accordingly!
NOT your primary source of fuel, a quick and reliable fuel to push through and get up the hill or get back to the barn. See Hammer Gel website for suggested usage.

The previous model had a much better top. Seemed higher quality and easier to use. Not sure why they changed it (cost?). The top of the current model is tight and more difficult to get on and off. Also. the pull top comes off of the new one I have regularly. This is not a deal breaker as you can push it back on easily. I would pay more for a higher quality flask. Possibly food grade silicone? I use this flask on longer rides with Hammer gel in it.

I've been using GU Gels for about two years after the demise of Clif Shots. I have to limit caffiene intake, so these are a great option. The flavor is very good and the consistency is the right balance between thick and thin. I use one about every 45min to 60min during most rides. The energy boost typically kicks in 7 to 8 minutes after ingest, and lasts 25 to 30 minutes. No sugar bonk or crash following. Only complaint is no litter leash like Clif's packaging. If GU would/could buy that patent, I would be a 105% satisfied GU customer.

This is my go-to if I'm trying to rip through the city for like 45 minutes or so and not carry any fuel on me. The amino acid blend with taurine makes the difference for shorter efforts, I've found. I stopped using it for awhile in favor of other products but this combination of ingredients just makes sense for me. For higher carbs, the drink mix is the way to go.
