Twice the precision.
Often times, the fastest riders in the peloton aren't just the strongest riders, but the smartest and the smoothest. Saving energy wherever possible is paramount when it comes to winning races, and you'll find one of the places where you can save the most energy is your pedal stroke. At the core of the Pioneer Power Meter System are dual strain gauges (one for each crank arm) that measure force vectors every 30°, or in other words, 12 points of measurement for pedal stroke – for each leg. When paired up with Pioneer's Touchscreen Cycle-Computer, this information is analyzed and displayed in real-time to show you not only how much power you're putting out but also, by utilizing the vector data, how efficient you're being with your power.
With the Pioneer Shimano Ultegra R8000 Power Meter Crankset, Shimano completely redesigned the Ultegra crankset, pulling the features and technology down from the 9100 level, the FC-R8000 minimizes weight without sacrificing stiffness. With a wider gear pitch, this crankset is sure to fit into a variety of frame styles and geometries. Adding only 62 grams to the weight of the R8000, this whole kit weighs in at 853 grams.

Works well out of the box

Power meter works well. As a comparison, I have a Watteam PowerBeat on my other bike. Nice not to need to charge as often, or to spend the time to calibrate the meter. The Pioneer wakes up quickly, and the Garmin recognizes the meter over ANT within a few seconds, as expected.
Appreciate that the power meter comes configured correctly out of the box. For those needing to use the power meter in other ways, such as splitting it across two bikes, or updating firmware in the months to come, you'll need the Pioneer head unit, or send it in to be reconfigured.
The Powerbeat power meter sits on the edge of the crank arms, so I was not prepared for clearance issues on my Emonda 2018 frame. I had to add a 1mm spacer to ensure clearance under stress. Make sure to check Pioneer's web site for frame compatibility. Most frame sets should work. Pioneer support indicated the supplied magnets are ONLY for use when paired with the Pioneer head unit on this model power meter for greater display accuracy with proprietary features. They indicated the magnets are not helpful for cadence accuracy for other head units.
