Lots of features and a couple bugs

My Garmin Edge 830 died and since I am getting old and blind, I thought I would get something with a bigger screen, the Edge 1050 fit the bill. The price was really good since I had lots of gold membership karma coming. I generally love the 1050 after more than a 2000 miles. The screen is very bright easy to see even with glare from the sun that some have complained about, its not an issue. Importantly, I can see the numbers because they are big enough (for the most part). However, there remains several bugs which I find really irritating. The 1050 often displays a blank screen while riding which you can flip past, but you cant get rid of. You would think there would be a default 20 min ramp ftp test like my 830 used to have, it does not, but it will auto estimate if you do a 20 min hard effort. Sometimes it drops a sensor for no apparent reason and the only way to get it back on appears to be by power cycling the device; this also solves the freezing screen that has happened a couple times. Finally, I love the music controls on the 1050, but it too occasionally locks up and is unusable. Overall, although I know the list of irritants is long, their occurrence is fairly rare. If I had to do it again I would still buy the Garmin Edge 1050 and I imagine within a few updates these issues will resolve.

Excellent Fit and Functionality!

More safety with motorists is a real good thing! I almost bought the Garmin version a while back since many of my riding buddies liked theirs, but when I heard Wahoo was coming out with this radar unit I decided to wait and match it to my new Wahoo head unit. Setup was very quick and easy. Battery life is excellent and the radar is very accurate. Of course I still use my sunglasses mirror for busy SoCal streets, but when you are flying downhill it's nice to know you can take the entire lane with no cars behind you. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but your safety is always worth it!

Insane battery life

The light is a bit heavy compared the to the Light & Motion light it replaced but the battery life is the best I've ever had on something this compact. Most of my riding has been during the day so I'm only using one of the flash modes most of the time but it's been over a month and it is still reading in the green. I might also have about an hour of use on the low and medium setting after dark so really it is very impressive, wish I kept track of the actual time. The light is solidly built and I like the mounting system, no slippage at all and I do ride on some terrible roads. It is bright enough for me, there might be some washout as the other reviewer mentioned but it hasn't bothered me at all, for the price this has to be one of the best available.

Information overload and thats good

I continue to use Garmin products because they last and I milk every ride out of them. There are so many options available I am amazed wat I don't use every day. I was happy with my old Garmin but the amount of features on this have me looking over data post ride longer than I ever have. I chose the solar model for endurance events. I have used the solar power to brighten the screen without regard to the battery. That is an unexpected benefit as I get older. I didn't buy it for it's size but the larger screen is also a bonus to those aging eyes.
