This does one job and does it well, it keeps mud, dirt, sand, pebbles out of your face and eyes. As an added benefit it also keeps the most of the same debris off of the fork stanchions, steerer tube, and the lower headset bearing.
This is a great fender if you understand what its purpose is. Simply, it is meant to keep mud from flying forward off the front tire, and blowing back into your face. I have tried a few of the fuller fenders and they don't do any better of a job then this one. Also, I've never found a fender for mountain biking that will keep water from splashing on you, this one is no different. That said, if you want a little extra protection then this alone offers, use this in conjunction with one the bottom tube mounted guards. As a added bonus, it is cheap, and easy to mount.
Can't say enough about this fender. It's great. Small, light, out of the way, but works. Just buy one.
What else can you ask for? It is effective at keeping mud from packing the back of the fork and brace.
Doesn't get much better. Lightweight yet still appears sturdy for mountain biking. Strapped mine to a Fox fork, went on a muddy ride and never had any mud/water/debris thrown into my eyes or face with this fender on. My glasses stayed nice and clean. Highly recommended.
