This Garmin cycling computer is a must for every cyclist. I have only been cycling for 5 months. As a new cyclist I didn't know lots of important information such as the right cadence. It wasn't till I purchased the Garmin that I was able to understand where my cadence should be so that I could become more efficient. This computer will give you all the information you need to know and more to improve in cycling.
I use this product to record my rides. The unit is dependable and has good battery life. It seems overly-complicated (I prefer Lezyne's fewer buttons) and things like backlight and switching screens can be cumbersome. The screens are customizable, but depending on how many fields you're displaying re-sizing a particular field or fields may not be available. Other than that, the unit works well.
I would give it 5 stars if I understood or had all the gadgets needed to get all the info this computer can display ... Cadence, HR, Distance, Time of day, is all need.
It has the most features of any Garmin I have owned
I've been using a Garmin 820 for years, and learned to accept the glitchy touch screen sensitivity, display limitations and cluttered look of many of the pages. The 830 represents a vast improvement on all counts - it is simply a joy to use. Even the charging port cover is more robust!
Great GPS bike computer in a small package with all the metrics you need to enjoy riding! No touch screen. Mapping is simplistic but works at an acceptable level. Easy to load maps through garmin connect and just as easy to upload onto Strava.
screen is perfect size for my garbage eyes without feeling like i have an ipad on my bars. easy to use. great data.
I had a Garmin Edge 520 for a couple of years with no issues. Although I was very happy with the 520, I decided to upgrade the the Garmin Edge 530. I really like the functionality and accuracy of this product. The stats and functions of the 530 are very impressive with a larger screen. Excellent quality product!
This edge520plus does most of what I need, in a very nice small package. The display is excellent, highly visible in all kinds of lighting situations. I like the ability to customize the selection of fields to be displayed. The gps capability is excellent. The map display is nice, if a bit small. The one thing I would like to see added is the ability to pick up heart rate from my Garmin watch with optical sensor.
Simply Awesome performance and data compilation
Id like to give it 4 1/2 stars. The only issue was that my usb plug cover on the back has never shut properly and always flips open when I put it into the mount. Might be an issue in the future in the rain.
Great unit. Works flawlessly and syncs to smartphone easily. Easy to read face even when not lit. Buttons are small but so is this unit. Excellent cycling feedback with the Garmin Connect app.
I love the 530! I had an old 500 and it was time to upgrade. Love the larger screen and the mapping capability. Very easy to use and much easier to read.
Decided to go with this one vs the 830 because I thought the extra price for really just the touch screen was a bit much. I have not regretted not having the tough screen.
Would definitely recommend!
This is one of the most affordable, feature-packed ride computers on the market. Proven technology, rugged construction, reliable performance. I use this computer on a regular basis for ride of 20 to 60 miles. I can't think of anything I don't like about it, because it is perfect for me.
It works well, has the screens I need, and is fairly easy to personalize, but don't buy if connecting to your iPhone is important
I came from being a long time 520 user and I really love the 530. I upgraded primarily because my 520 was about 4-5 years old and the battery was really bad. I do gravel events and use the gps course mapping feature a lot in those events as well as in cold temperatures. This is a battery destroyer typically but the 530 has held up very very well on 6-7 hour elasped time for gps mapping, colder weather (30-40F), power meter, bluetooth phone, and brightness dimmed to 20%, and GPS enabled. Looking beyond the extended battery life are features that go above and beyond the 520.
Road cycling is my preferred use. I would suggest anyone using this to download the manual. It was very well done in explaining the functions through the various menus. A few minor things were missed, but definitely not a deal breaker. The various data screens can be customized nicely to your preferences of what is important to you to see for each type of activity (type of riding). From the Connect store many addons can be installed so you would be hard pressed not to make this computer personalized. Pairing a Bluetooth ear piece is nice as it will give you periodic stats as you ride along with info on in-coming calls, etc. , too. The navigation map is really done well giving you detailed turn-by-turn directions with uploaded courses. When paired with a Bluetooth ear piece, you'll get audio on directions.
This is the computer with the most MTB features out there, it comes in a small form factor and the button only interface makes it the better suited for MTB riding .
Use this mainly for road rides. The battery life is awesome.
My wife isn't the data geek that I am, but she really likes her Edge 830. Now that she is getting the additional data she is being won over and sees the benefits.
