Lightyears better than the 820!

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

Just finished a 1,050 mile trip with my new Edge 830 and I was wowed. Battery life is incredible with 70% off the charge left after a 109 mile ride, including interacting with a Varia radarlight unit, remote and D-fly. The higher resolution screen is much clearer than older Edges. Touch screen works well and it's consistent linking with my phone via bluetooth is much more reliable than the 820 had been. Responds automatically to the buttons on my Domane SLR7 hoods to change screens forward and backwards. Ride with GPS routing directions were perfectly presented. The only thing I wish was different is the alarm which indicates someone is moving your bike when you're at a pit stop of getting coffee. It does show on your phone but is so quiet bystanders wouldn't pay any attention. It is apparently not adjustable. Overall, far and away the best computer I've ever owned. Love it!!

A nice asset to track your riding

Review for Garmin Edge 520 Plus

This is my first GPS unit. I bought it for an upcoming self supported bike trip from Albany NY to Portland ME. I'm still getting used to it and find the interface a little confusing. It tracks your ride, showing time elapsed, average speed , maximum speed, elevation gain and calories used. It interfaces with their app Connect, Strava, Map My Ride and others. Once you're set up everything uploads to the other sites. There is some question about battery life, but I've kept it on an external battery or my dynamo hub and have had no battery loss over a 7 hour period

Sweet computer! Switched from an Edge Explore to this 530. Big plus, rec'd enough credit to get the speed sensor 2 (saves distance if computer putts out - 300hrs!!). Out front mount is solid, buttons are clicky and snappy. My only gripe is some minor 1st release software hiccups. It was logging me moving and stopping, constantly setting off collision detection. It froze up on initial setup too, but both issues have subsided with sensors connected and out on the road. Very solid, highly recommended.

I use the Edge 530 on every ride and upload to Connect afterwards to track my progress. My Edge 520 battery was worn down and could only last about 45 min, also had 45% powermeter dropouts. This 530 is much improved over the 520 in my experience. Look for it on sale and get out and ride.

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

I've been using my Edge 820 for a few years and have been through the range from the 510 to the 820, now the 830. I was forced into a new unit due to battery anxiety. Almost went with the Wahoo Element, but went with what's familiar. Right away, I am very happy with the much improved screen resolutioncrispness. In direct sun I can finally read the unit which was at times a challenge with the 820....Big plus. Touch screen response is also much improved as well as the speed when tapping between screensfunctions...another Big plus.

Downside It could use a phone interface like the Wahoo units in order to vastly simplify screen set-up. If it had that functionality, I would give it 5 stars. Garmin, you need to catch up to the times even though your base DNA is solid.

You will want this product if you have the Di2 system. Easy to setup and view your gearing and if you have the auto mode on a tri bike it will beep when you reach the last gear before a front ring change. Battery status and copious amounts of data fields to display.

Terrific GPS cycling computer. This is an exponential improvement over my prevous Garmin Edge 500. Highly customizable color screens, all the cycling metrics you could want, fast GPS signal acquiring, and great large screen. Pre-loaded mapscourses and live strava segments are also a nice feature.

Loved the first one, bought a second when it broke

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

I had an 820 and really liked it. It was 8 years old when the battery died. One of the electronics specialists at work replaced the battery for me, but he broke a connection and the top third of the touch screen no longer worked. I wish that Garmin would repair devices, it worked fine until the battery needed replacement

Been running 520 for 5 years and thought everything newer was more than I needed. Within 5 rides I knew how much more tech was at my hands. Month in my maxVO2 is climbing along with healthy feel. Looking for technical help for your fitness, look no further.

I purchased my latest Garmin to replace the Garmin 1000 I have had for a number of years. I purchased the updated smaller unit because of the daily battery life as advertised. So far it performs as expected and is reasonable in price. I have not had a long enough ride to tell about expected battery but it works well with my Varia add on component as expected.

This is a great computer, even better if you're upgrading from another Garmin. I was able to transfer the info from all of my sensors which is the most time consuming and aggravating part of setting up a new Garmin, greatly appreciated.

Review for Garmin Edge 830 GPS Computer

The Garmin 830 is super easy to set up and use. Has all the features most riders would need and more. Navigate to an address and hill climb details are just two of the many useful features. Touchscreen works great. Note that the screen is on the small side.

Bought computer on a recommendation from a friend. Did a lot of research as well as to size features battery life etc. computer works great and was relatively easy to set up. Not as intuitive as older models and not as easy to set up pages as previous models is my only gripe! Mapping capabilities, map features and connectivity to Garmin connect were seamless. Overall good purchase very happy

Garmin Edge 530 GPS Computer: it's much less expensive than the 830 and 1030; I don't care about the bells and whistles of the other models, so for me, it's a better value...works great with the Garmin Varia RTL515 Rear-view radar/tail light too.

Review for Garmin Edge 830 Bundle GPS Computer

I bought this as a gift but am also the buyer of an Edge 830. Touch screen works better than my old 820. I don't notice a significant increase in processing speed but that has never been a problem. Setup is easy and quick. The 830 gives additional road information such as sharp curve ahead. Battery life is great! I have not used climbing information yet as my rides are not generally planned.

Having fully searched and researched other options I figured the Edge 520 was way more computer than I needed. Yet I decided to take a leap and spend the money. I am so glad I did! I am just getting back into serious riding again after a 25 year lay off and the Edge 520 is one more exciting motivation to get on the bike. Installation of sensors and computer mount and customized view setup was a breeze plus function is very intuitive. At first I wondered why it isn't a touch screen for the price but the buttons work great in all weather conditions. After each ride or indoor training session it is very rewarding to immediately get the prompt on my phone and iPad from both Strava and Garmin Connect saying my ride data is ready to view. Never thought I would get into the whole heart rate craze but it has truly taken my training to new levels.

Pro The Garmin Edge 520 computer and bundle is a great value. The edge 520 is loaded with features every cyclist will use.

Con The Garmin Edge 520 does not have a trip distance data field. Only total odometer reading which is a big negative for me.

No touch screen.
