I use these shorts for training and for competitions. I swim, SUP, run and ride bicycle centuries with full comfort. The key points are the medium-high waist that keeps it above the hip bones, but not over normal shorts height. I remove the waist cord because it is not necessary. The elastic waistband is plenty. Fabric is a semi-gloss finish and very durable. I have bought 6 pairs over the last 7 or 8 years and I still have my first pair. I use the newer ones for races because they just look better, and the older ones for training. I have mediums, large and extra large. The tighter mediums are best for swim training, the large is good for everything, and I use the extra large for Yoga classes for a more relaxed look. The seat pad is a synthetic that does not chafe and stays cool. I add some lube to it only for Half Irons or longer events. Never needed any for training. I have tried shorts with padded foam and it is just too hot. The bulky feeling is not good. De Soto makes other shorts that are more expensive, and I have tried them. I keep going back to my Carreras. Hope they work as well for you.
