Usual conti durability with the option to get reflective sidewall. not as durable as gatorskins, though.
I tried my first pair of Continental GP 4000 tires for my Southern Trans this past September 2017. I had been a Continental Gator Skin user as those tires are very durable but ride quite stiff and are not the easiest tire to get off your rims especially if your hands are cold.
I also reduced the air pressure to 90 F and 90 R based on advice from Lon Haldeman, Pac Tour Master.
So with the GP4000 at this TP the ride was very smooth, didn't feel any softness when climbing, and road surface absorption was excellent. Rode 1500 miles over 14 ride days and no flats.
This is a great tire for dual use as a racer and every day tire. Still the King of rolling resistance in my view.
Very good. Bought these to replace mavic Ykson tires. They got flats practically every time i rode. Read up on these Conti 4sii. Great reviews. Not the lightest, but very good for the riding i do, so far. I only have about 750km on them since purchasing these and not one flat. - I'll go ride tomorrow and get one now - thanx WB!
Price match from WB was great. However i see there is a big price drop in these at the moment. I got 23mm and 25mm running at 90 and 75psi respectively on different wheelsets. Huge improvement over what i had. I weigh 72kgs
Low rolling resistance, great race tire.
Been buying these for years - never any issues - bullet proof.
I use this tire on my go fast wheel for days when I want to go faster than usual. It works! 44 mph instead of the usual 42 going down the steep part of Hillside from Clapshaw, and generally faster on the flats, especially with a latex inner tube.
Excellent tires for training in all conditions.
I've had these tires on front and rear for about 8 weeks and 1000 miles. During that time I've had two flats on the rear tire. We've had a lot of road work going on around here which may be a source of additional puncture producing debris on the roads. Other than that I've really enjoyed these tires. The roiling resistance is very good which makes this a fast tire. Handling in dry and wet weather has been good. The tires appear to be wearing well. They are easier to change than Conti Gatorskins and I have been able to get them off with two tire levers and back on by hand only. I would buy these tires again.
You really need to purchase a pair of these beauties and ride them to appreciate them. I use these for all rides as they are fast and they are also dependable. Tread life out performs all other tires that I have tried.
Solid tire, all I use.
I'm running the 25mm width tires, between 80 - 95 psi on 3 of my road bikes. My experience with the Conti Grand Prix 4000 SII has been excellent. Smooth ride, great grip, low rolling resistance and better than expected durability. I've had 2 puncture flats due to road debris in approximately 2000 miles. No pinch flats, no defects, etc. Tires are pretty easy to mount too. I've had the earlier version of this tire without the Black Chili and I do believe there is a noticeable difference with the Black Chili - more grip, lower resistance. Occasionally these go on sale, when they do, they are a great value. For reference I've run Conti hard shell gator backs - In my opinion the Grand Prix 4000S II are far superior. I also ride Vittoria Open Corsa and Open Pave - the Conti Grand Prix 4000S II are more durable , the grip seems about the same but the Vittoria are just a bit nicer ride. Hope that helps.
this is the one to get. best overall performance tire
A little hard to mount.
Excellent handling feel
Low rolling resistance
Love these tires
i have been using the GP4000S and SII for a number of years. I consistently get over 10K miles on a tire (new tire goes on front and when back wears out front goes to back and new tire on front). Tires ride great on varied asphalt surfaces.
Continental tyres are by far the best I have ridden on. This is an easy assessment - I have been riding for 50 years and have ridden over 500,000 miles...many miles on different tyre makes. No contest Continental Grand Prix 4000 (and 'All Season') have out performed all of the others. I ride on them, I race on them - it's proven to be the 'failsafe' choice for me. It's highly unlikely I will change.
Love these tires. Low rolling resistance. Good handling feel. So far (knock on wood) reliable - have about 1,000 miles on them. No punctures. No damage. Fast. Efficient. Worth the price.
For my racing (mostly long distance triathlon) I really like these tires because
-they're resistant to road hazards
-they're light weight
-they're comfortable to ride
-they're quick to change if needed
is very responsive tire.
rarely flat with it, resistant to punctures.
Has good road feel and not slippery in wet conditions.
