The Grand Prix 4000 S II is even grippier, more durable, and faster than its predecessor. That's because Continental is able to improve their exclusive Black Chili compound just a little bit every year, thanks to their continued dedication to research and development.

What is Black Chili? It's a unique rubber formula with an ultra-dense construction and high silica content, allowing it to deliver outstanding grip and blazing fast speeds. This cutting-edge formula is also optimized for reliability and longevity, making it a great choice when both performance and durability are top priorities.

The GP 4000 S II also features Conti's patented Vectran puncture protection breaker. Vectran was originally developed by NASA in the construction of space shuttles and suits, and Continental has brought its otherworldly lightweight protection to bike tires, making these lightweight tires impressively flat-resistant.

All in all, the GP 4000 S II is Continental's most advanced racing clincher yet, with a truly unique blend of speed, durability, and, now, aesthetics. Thanks to the high-tech materials and years of testing and development, the GP 4000 S II delivers low rolling resistance and superb handling with exceptional puncture protection and higher mileage performance than a typical race tire.

The Grand Prix 4000 S II features a three-ply 330 TPI casing. Kevlar folding bead. Max inflation is 120 PSI. Claimed weight is 205 grams (700c x 23mm)

You cant go wrong with this Continental tire. It is one of the most durable tires on the market and it easily compares to the S-works cotton tire in speed

So far this is a good tire. Rides well and handles the cracks and black top bumps and holes well.

Fast but may cause flats
by Anonymous
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful.

Bought these to ride for the May bike more challenge to swap out my wider winter conti 4 season tires. They feel faster with less rolling resistance (28mm) and are lighter than the 32mm 4 season ms I ride during the winter but Ive experienced 3 flats during the month of May with 464 miles on them. The inside of the tire feels a bit rough (you can see the ridges if you turn the tire inside out) and I think they rub the tube quite a bit which have caused my flats. They arent pinch flats or true punctures but look like more frictionrub causing the flats. May put tireliners on or switch over to slimmer 4 seasons instead.

Have been running GP 4000S for a long time. They have a very long life span and hold up great to our multi-condition type days. I always recommend them to people!

BEST BALANCE OF, DURABILITY, MILEAGE, PERFORMANCE AND VALUE...

Like many cyclists, I've tried a lot of different high performance tires looking for that one tire that excels at everything. In the end, I use GP4000's on all of my wheels. A few tires have a more supple ride, a few corner better. Other tires are miserable to fit or have weak side walls or get lousy mileage or are prone to flats. GP4000,s just inspire confidence. They corner well in wet and dry, I get excellent mileage, (3,000 mi. plus), average about 1 flat per year, never had a side wall problem and they have relatively low rolling resistance. I've hammered these tires on So. California roads and the GP4000.s always get me home safely.

70028 measures out to 70032

Thought I was crazy. Replaced a pair of Specialized roubaix 70028 with the Conti 70028 and the tire was rubbing slightly both front and back. The continentals measured 32 wide and the specialized measured 28 wide. The tire was printed with 70028. At least it looked and felt good on the bike stand.

Great all around tire that is surprisingly fast for something this tough

Have ridden on this tire for 18 months in 28 width. Have always ridden 23 to 25 but after doing some more research decided to try the 28's. As with many things in life it's hard to admit that everything you thought you knew was right is proven wrong when you finally give in and try. These tires are not slower, they might be a little heavier but not enough to make a difference for most riders. Their toughness is amazing. I finally decided after a summer of riding to buy another set in preparation for spring. The current set has multiple slices that would have flattened other tires.

Great rolling resistance with puncture protection

I've been riding Conti Gatorskins and Hardshells for years. I've found the 4000 SII as a better all around tire. They still have excellent puncture protection with the benefit of better rolling resistance. Highly recommended

More Sidewall Issues

Unfortunately I bought four of these, they were on sale, had good reviews, I 've had success with Conti's in the past.

First tire (on the rear) made it through a century , and about another 150 or so total training miles. I flatted at the very end of the ride, right by my truck, so no biggie took it home and changed it there.

After the normal routine of looking for the object that caused the flat, running finger through tire and wheel nothing was obvious. Put another tube in started pumping, I see sliver of tube coming out of small slit at the seam of the tire casing. Very small opening in tire it was beginning to separate. Although disappointed at the failure on such low mileage figured it just was bad luck.

Put on the other tire I had, less than 50 miles, on freshly paved trail, instant flat. Initially could not see the cause, upon closer inspection, yup, separating on the sidewall again.

Never again, fortunately didn't get hurt as both times it was rear tire.

GP4000S II inflates to wider than sidewall spec
by morningglass

GP 4000S II inflates to wider than sidewall spec. After blog search, purchased GP4000S II to ride in Tour of Flanders Sportive. Blog recommendations were to use wider tires inflated to lower pressure to take out some of the harshness of riding on the Flemish cobbles. Measured width of forks, chain stays, and seat stays (eight year old Fondriest carbon frame and Easton fork) and determined not wide enough for 28mm but 25mm should fit. Purchased and mounted 700x25 GP4000S IIs and inflated to 95 psi. Measured width of inflated tires (digital micrometer) was 27.75mm leaving about 1 mm clearance each side between tires and fork and stays. Tires rode well on the cobbles - comfortable, good traction in the damp, and most importantly NO PUNCTURES. Remounted 700x23 other brand tires that had been removed to mount the GP4000s IIs to regain tire-to-forkstays clearance and will use the GP4000s IIs on another bike with greater forkstay widths. Great tires, next time this bike needs tires will probably buy another set of GP4000s IIs in 23mm width.

A lightweight tire, good road feel, great traction wet or dry, awesome puncture resistance. The reflective strip in the sidewall really helps at night. Continental a German reliable brand that's been in business for a while and has the know how. My go to tire for a while now ....
