My favorite road tire for a decade. Improved tread material. They have a very supple feel compared to other brands without sacrificing rolling resistance or speed. The roads in our area are the worst. The tires hold up very well to the terrible alligatoring and pot holes. I ride 25mm.
This is the first time using Continental Tires after using Michelin tires and so far they seem fine. The rolling resistance is definitely better without affecting handling. I only have a couple hundred miles on them so far.
I cycled 13,000 miles in 2017 and am on track for 11,440 miles in 2018. Fitness is my goal and I belong to two cycling clubs for weekly rides. I ride the GP 4000 tires in the dry season in Oregon, and the only downside is the propensity to flat and gash-out before the tread is worn down on the rear tire.
It doesn't get any better than these tires...the gum wall sides look really good too. -) I only wish Continental made these for tubeless rims.
I have over 14,000 miles on these tires, not the same set of course, but I do get about 4-5K miles out of a set. Strong, grippy (wet and dry), durable.... What else can you ask from a tire? I train with them and also race with them. I also like the high thread count in the casing which makes it a comfortable riding tire. Not as nice as the best sew-ups but for a clincher it's really nice.
These tires are not only fast in terms of rolling resistance, but they're very grippy for cornering. You can feel it and hear it when you're doing a corner right, and it's lots of fun. Great tires, they just feel good.
Great tire. Ive been using Grand Prix 4000 for years. Good feel for a clincher. High list price but discounts can be found. Only concern is the side wall. Most tired I replace are due to sidewall cuts.
The Continental GP4000s delivers, it can be more expensive than other tires but you get what you pay for.
I highly recommend it and Bikestiresdirect has the best prices and service.
I got 3000 miles on these tires with no flats.
I've put 3000 miles on these tires with no flats.
The tires are on a set of ENVE wheels. Regular road use. Great grip. I use the 4000 S tires on all my clincher wheels
I always stock up on a few of these tires whenever they are on sale. They are light and durable. I use them for races and training. Rarely will they flat, and that is usually caused by steel wire from steel belted tires that litter our roads.
I do alot of riding at night and these tires are perfect for us. They reflect really well and are nice and sturdy.
Conti GP4000s are known for their low rolling resistance, and my own personal spin-down tests on my training rollers confirm this. The supple sidewalls come with a price, however-they are a little more prone to punctures if you accidentally drop your bike into a pavement crack and snag the sidewall. Easy to do in bad lighting conditions. That's where the reflective version comes in. The reflective strip provides a little more sidewall protection and helps cars see you in the dark. They are very handy on bike tours when you have to negotiate your way back to your tent at night using a headlamp-you just have to look for those big bright double circles.
Tires performed well
This is not the smoothest rolling tire. It My last set made it over 3000 miles. For the money, to get a durable fast rolling tire, this one is hard to beat.
I use this product for crit racing. The tire conforms to the corners well and have good flat resistance on the open road.
For past 5 years or longer I have ridden on another brand tire, I was satisfied. Bought a pair of the Grand Prix S II's, and have only one of the two currently installed (on the rear). I immediately noticed a nicer ride, felt stickier too. Definitely a better ride than what I was accustomed to.
I'll go out on a limb without any empirical evidence at all - the tire seems faster. Just a a couple rides and will be changing the front soon - so we'll se about that. Have to give them a season to see how they hold up. But so far - nice tire.
Will try the 25 but have ridden 23 for 1000s of miles with rarely a problem.
My favorite tire. Good mix of road feel, rolling resistance and puncture protection.
