I've got thousands of miles on these tires. Absolutely zero flats or issues with them. I ride all winter long, all summer long on them.
They aren't the most supple feeling of tire, but given the protection they provide, they are excellent handling and feeling tires. I heartily recommend them to anyone that doesn't want to hassle with frequent flats.
A lot of people seem to look down on the Gatorskins - they're common, but that's for a reason. Great tires, great durability. Well worth the investment.
Great tire for urban streets and poorly-maintained county roads. Was experiencing a lot of flats from picked-up debris riding in town and on the low-traffice (and low maintenance) county roads. The Gatorskin is a bit heavy, but I never felt it ... what I felts was a responsive tire that simply never let me down. These still looked great at 1,500 miles.
Bought 700 25mm. Big difference going over the bumps, and it smooths the ride. I don't race, but I pedal 18-20 mph and at my age (80) I don't think the heavier tire slows me down.
best tire i have ever put on a bike.well over 5000 miles on the last pair. pretty good for a heavy rider doing about 3000 miles a year.
Have been using these tires now for nearly six years. The flat protection and durability compared to other tires is outstanding. Recently put a set on both my wife's and daughters road bikes. While no tire is immune from flats these I think are the best combination of flat protection and wear. Usually get 4K to 5K mileage from the Gatorskins. Also I prefer running 25's over the smaller 23's, for me the ride is noticeably more comfortable. I see lots of these tires on our club rides, particularly in the winter months.
I started buying these Gatorskins after I got tired of ripped sidewalls and too many flats riding 60 - 100 miles a week on roads that take a beating in the winter. They're tough and they last and have a nice road feel.
I have been slowly switching to these and the Continental Hardshell tires for the increased durability they provide. I was tired of constantly getting nicks and flats with Michelin Pro Race tires.
No flats up to now, so I'm happy with the products.
I've tried the 4000S in the past but I find the Gatorskins hold up better.
Most of the roads I ride have poor surface and plenty of trash. The Gatorskins seem to handle them without any issues. I don't notice any downside compared to the 4000S.
These are not sticky enough in the corners to be other than a training tire, but I have gotten 4-5000 miles out of a set. The side walls still fray over time and are vulnerable to a side puncture, but that has only happened to me twice and I don't think any tire would have done any better. Make sure you go over these tires once a week or so and remove debris out of the rubber since it will rub a hole in the tube, they will not keep out radial tire wire, but no tire will do that. Once they are worn flat and you see cord showing its time to replace them. When purchased on sale they are great bargain.
This is really the only tire I buy now. While it's a little pricey, it's a great value for how long it lasts. I ride daily (approx 30 miles), and find this tire performs well in all weather conditions. I actually feel safer on these tires even though it may just be an illusion.
Since switching to Gatorskins the number of flats has been dramatically reduced. I've only had one flat in 3500 miles. The most important component of the performance of the tire for me is trusting my tires. This solved my primary goal. 5 stars for the primary goal. Ride is 2ndary and fortunately I am happy with the ride.
Daily riding-35 to 50 miles avg.
I bought these tires for the sole reason to race them at El Tour 111 miles in Nov. 2012. With 2 dry river wash crossings, plenty of cactus needles and some sketchy road surface I wanted a tire I could count on. The Coni Gatorskin came through!
I ride intown where the bike paths get a lot of trash from motorists taking stuff
to the local landfill. Before I switched to Gatorskin tires, I was fixing flats
a lot of the time, but know I find that I can ride safely and without flats. Also, I find that they give a smooth comfortable ride.
I have already ridden about 300 hundred miles on these tires, Normally after installing and riding on a new tire, I see some tear because of brocken glasses on the road, but I don't even see any wear on these tires. Great handling, even on wet surfaces.
The gatorskins skins made a noticeable difference in my ride. The traction and feel of ride was a nice improvement.
I purchased these tire for my dad's bike. He's 80 something and rides about 30 miles a week. He's not so good with the maintenance and he tends to run tires longer than most of us would. So that he could have a longer time between tire changes and so less chance of a flat I decided to try the gatorskins. So far so good. I anticipate excellent service with these tires.
I like this tire for training on both my single and my tandem race bike. It seems indestructible. I do however change out my tires regularly not allowing them to get to the point where the wear is suspect. I wish there was a more visible arrow telling the rotating direction. The tread design gives no clue as to the rotation.
i ride at 330am down to 20 degrees. i couldn't fix a flat if i had to. i use slime inner tubes with the gator skins on my fixie. i do 45 miles a morning on back country roads and it's essential that i keep moving. until i discovered this combination and put it through its paces i would have never attempted this kind of riding. fantastic products.
I came back to Continental tires after trying a few other brands. Most brands aren't really round - after enough miles this gets to be annoying. The Gatorskins wear well, handle well, and resist most normal road damage. I haven't gotten a lumpy one yet. They come in a good variety of sizes. They could cost less, but so can everything else in this world.
