Best gravel tire for mixed use

I've ridden Nanos in the 40 width for four seasons now. They hold up well, wear well, and perform nicely on both pavement and gravel. They also work well on dirt single track. Traction is very good in a variety of conditions and they corner well. I've been able to run one set for an entire year, usually, riding 6-8 hours a week, on average.

I've found the 40s measure closer to 38-39 and fit in my frame when other 40s won't. The width gives me a soft ride at 26-28 psi while not risking my wheelset to rock damage. In the Utah winter, I rely on Nanos for 2-3 hour road rides with some patches of snow or ice.

Jack of all trades...

I've put 1500+ miles on these from last summer, through the winter and well into this spring. I bought them on a suggestion from a buddy, and am glad that I did.

These have been rock solid and do a great job at being all 'rounders. Enough bite and grip for most surfaces but the loosest/wettest conditions. Decently fast on tarmac, but not the fastest. The only situations I've found these to lack is in wet/muddy or snow/icy conditions (although they do better here than my previous g-king sk's) and they lose a bit of grip in sandy/loose corners. Nothing that don't also trouble all tires I've ridden to be fair.

I'm going to try a drier tire next for the coming dry season, but would not hesitate to buy these again.

Wish I could try these properly...

I really, really wanted to give these tires a go but the sidewalls are so thin that the tire flops around all over the place when you are trying to mount for a tubeless setup. I tried everything I could practically think of but tubeless is seemingly impossible for these tires. I would return/exchange except I've had these for a long while collecting dust as I thought I could win this battle. Now I guess I'll try and sell them at a loss. Not sure I'll be trying another WTB tire on my dime. I'm sure they are a nice tire but I didn't buy them to run with tubes for my first tubeless setup. I ended up trying a tire from a different brand and the process was so easy. Maybe a strap around this tire would help or maybe one of the foam liners for flat protection would make things easier but at this point I'm cutting my losses.

I like it ... ah lot

Are you looking for Jeep tires for your gravel bike? These are them.

Are you single-track-on-your-gravel-bike-curious? They do that.

Do you like to taunt roadies with that "rahr, rahr, rahr" sound as you creep up on them? These are for that too.

They are my goto all road tire for daily ramblings. I don't ride a mountain bike, I just pretend my carbon fork is invincible...

Now, the things they are not the best at:

* Fast cornering through sketchy, soupy gravel

* Mud - like most gravel tires, they don't shed mud very well

Perfect Substitution

I bought these WTB Nano 700c TCS Light SG2 Gravel Tires to replace a more aggressive tire. Rode more on a combination of gravel/pavement/cement, and I just wanted something a little faster/smoother. These WTB Nano's still provide the grip I like like/need but also have increased my speed a touch and provide better efficiency.
