Keep it together.

Shimano's Shimano HG701 Ultegra/XT 11-Speed Chain uses an asymmetrical plate design and a SIL-TEC coating to produce a chain that ekes out the highest performance from your 11-speed groupset. The SIL-TEC ultra-low friction plating on the links and rollers makes for a quieter, longer-lasting chain that also sheds mud 30% better than normal zinc-nickel plated chains.

Claimed average weight is 257 g for 114 links.

Smooth shifting and durable

I just can't find a better chain than this for my Shimano 105 set-up. I ride mostly gravel and this chain hold up to constant sandstone and limestone gravel roads. I ride about 4000 miles annually, and go through 3-4 chains/year.

Great chain but expensive
by Anonymous

It is the only option on Ultegra and Durace according to Shimano. They last 1500-2000 miles and at $40-$50, they are not cheap. Great chain but I wish there were more options.

Just put this new chain on. It uses a quick link instead of the old pin technology. That seemed to simplify installation for me.

I'll definitely pick this chain for my the replacement on another bike.

Way better than KMB chain!
by Anonymous

A bike shop installed KMC chain on one of my bikes when it was in for some maintenance. Now that I have side by side comparison (w/this Ultegra chain), KMC chain is always much louder and it feels like it's dirty or something - like there's some extra friction. Mind you that I always clean & lube the chain after every ride (it's very dusty in San Diego).

I'll be replacing the KMC chain on my second bike for this Ultegra chain!

Good chain, better when on sale!

Have never had any issues with Shimano chains, and this one is no exception. Got this for my friend's bike that I tuned up for him. Really like that it comes with a quick link, as I always order a KMC link to go with the 10-spd ultegra chain for my bike if it happens to be on sale. Not sure if it's just in my head, but I feel like Shimano chains run just a little quieter than KMC, but shifting performance and longevity are very similar, so I tend to go with KMC more often simply due to price, but I like grabbing Shimano occasionally when they have a good deal going.

Shimano Chains for Shimano Drivetrains
by grajkovic

It's a chain. It does chain stuff - it is reliable, sturdy and durable. These come with a master link aka quick link aka missing link. I use these chains on my Ultegra Di2 11-speed setups. Keep the chains clean and serviced, and they'll last quite a while. I can run about 4,000 miles on one until I am due for a replacement, and I remove them and clean them in an ultrasonic parts cleaner about every 1,500 miles. I clean and re-lubricate them about every 150 miles, or when I get them visibly dirty - whichever comes first.

Best Value Chain out there!

Great value chain that lasts many miles. Always prefer the Ultegra because of price as it's a much better deal than the Dura Ace that provides only a small weight allowance.

Replace your Shimano 11-Speed chain sooner rather than later
by AlexandriaBiker

The quickest and easiest way to renew your drivetrain is by replacing the chain. If you use Shimano Ultegra 11 this is the only chain to buy. Its an exact match with the Shimano 11 drivetrain cassette and chainrings. Replacing the chain more often will reduce wear on the expensive cogs.

Excellent 11 Speed Chain
by JB

Smooth shifting, long lasting chain at a good price. I prefer not to mix brands on my drive train - Shimano cassette, crank and chain on my Di2 road bike. Likewise, I use only Sram chain, crank and cassette on my mountain bike. Compatibility insures everything works as it was engineered

Quality Chain at Reasonable Price
by Anonymous

Can't comment much about chain per se. Can only comment based upon experience with present gear setup. Have 34-50 compact gear rings with 11-32 cassette. Seems chain is not very tolerant with this setup. Had to replace chain despite Park Tool measuring tool did not even indicate 0.5mm of stretch, or wear. Not chain's fault.

This chain is my go to. I'm getting about 2000-2500 miles out of them changing when the wear tool suggests they are worn. Easy to install.

These are good chains at competitive prices. Life span depends On the rider , bike and hills.

If you have both 10 and 11 speed bikes then these chains work for both.

noisy chain

The chain was very noisy. At first I thought it was front derailleur rub but not the case. The chain would also occasionally sound as if it was jumping a cog. It was a bit quieter with a ton of lube but still not acceptable. The chain direction was correct and even after 700 miles it never stopped. I think I'm going to try a Sram 1170.

Works well and lasts a lot of miles.

I have this chain on several bikes and it works great. It also lasts quite a while although I don't tract mileage on my chains. I do take care of them however. Lube when necessary. On the rain bike, WD-40 to displace the water and chain lube for it's intended purpose.

Tough little chain

I'm a big boy (245 lbs) and usually ate at least one chain per season if not two with Ultegra 10 spd chains. After upgrading to 11 spd Ultegra and chains I now get about a year and a half to two years from the newer Shimano 11 spd chains. Articles suggest using these chains for 10 spd drivetrains as well because of their superior construction, materials, and longevity.
