The Shimano 105 BR-R7170 brake calipers inherit the same revamped qualities of the latest Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets—they are quieter, easier to maintain, and supremely controlled and powerful.
The calipers include a fast initial contact point with a wider control zone, and 10% wider pad-to-rotor clearance assuring noiseless operation.
Home mechanics will also appreciate a more user-friendly bleed process, which can be done without removing the caliper from the frame.
The new Shimano 105 12 Speed di2 groupset brings the benefits of semi-wireless electronic drivetrains to their workhorse line of components.
Pro level features are now available for every-day cyclists.

When doing some rebuilds/component swaps, I decided to try the new Shimano calipers for the easier bleed port access and increased brake pad clearance. Both of these things are improvements over the past series of calipers.
I also upgraded a bike with Ultegra-level GRX levers and calipers to the new generation of Ultegra brakes, and I think the servo wave tech on Ultegra is actually worth the hype. If you want to save a few bucks though, these brakes are solid.
