Now 25mm wide, HED's Jet 4 Plus FR Clincher Front Wheel is updated for even better performance.

The Jet series is notable for its hybrid construction. A unidirectional carbon fiber shell is bonded to a traditionally spoked wheel, using HED's fantastic C2 rim, for an unparalleled combination of low weight, strength, and aerodynamics. With the wind cheating properties of a race day wheel and the sturdy construction of a training wheel, it's what they call a quiver killer.

The Jet 4 Plus starts with HED's fantastic C2 aluminum rim, but unlike previous iterations, the Plus measures 25mm wide. This extra width results in a wider contact patch, greater sidewall support, and lower inflation pressures. The upshot of this is a faster rolling, grippier, more confident cornering, and more comfortably riding complete wheel. Using an aluminum rim also makes for a lightweight wheel that is still very durable and stiff, and allows for the use of traditional brake pads. Tubeless rim strips also make these suitable for use with or without inner tubes.

At 46mm, the Jet 4's depth provides significant aerodynamic gains over shallower aluminum rims, and the use of a carbon fiber shell allows for specific shaping to make the most efficient shape possible. For the best possible performance, HED employs what it calls Stability Control Technology (SCT), which improves handling in crosswinds so this wheel is stable regardless of wind direction. Since it doesn't need to be structural, the carbon can also be made thinner and lighter to shave additional grams off the wheel.

The Jet 4 uses HED's exclusive Sonic FR front hub featuring a carbon shell, alloy flanges, and cartridge bearings. A 12mm oversized axle and extra-wide flange spacing reduce flex and improve overall stiffness. 18 ultra-light Sapim CX Ray bladed spokes are laced radially to further lateral rigidity, weight reduction, and efficiency.

The Jet 4 Plus FR Clincher Front Wheel has a claimed weight of 723 grams. Titanium skewer, tubeless rim tape, and valve extender included.

Note: This wheel is sold individually. Because many riders prefer wheelsets with non-matching rim depths, a rear wheel must be purchased separately. If you would like to pair this wheel with a HED rear wheel that is not currently listed online, please contact us for specific availability.

don't understand why but didn't work for me

I hesitate to write this review because it flies in the face of all the research out there, and I'm not so arrogant as to believe that everyone else is wrong. As to why my results seem to vary so much from the established research, I have absolutely no idea? All I know is I used the rear Jet 4 on my usual 20 mile loop, and it felt like I was riding in mud the whole time. I'm 190 lbs, and I used an almost-new Michelin Pro4 Endurance tire inflated to 100psi which is the max HED recommends. When I got back from my ride, I verified that my brake pads weren't rubbing, put my original rear wheel back on, and rode a 1-mile loop and rolling test in a parking lot starting at a certain spot and speed and seeing how far I could coast before I stopped. Then I put the HED wheel back on and did the same 1-mile loop and rolling test, and I truly didn't coast as far with the HED wheel?? Again, I don't know why because I do believe in the science behind the wider wheels, but for me I didn't roll as easily on them. And I really wanted to love these wheels (

I'd been riding on the Ardennes since spring '13. Coupled with some 25mm tires and at low pressure the wheel sets provided a great ride over rough roads and chip seal here in AL. When I saw the version of the Jets now available I picked up the Jet 4 wheel set and have paired these wheels with 23mm Conti's. I run around 165-170 lbs and have run the 25mm as low as 70 psi in front. The 23's I run at a little over 80 psi in front using the HED wheel sets. The HED wheels with the wide rim bed provide a great ride all at a fair price and decent weight. I've raced the Ardennes at Rouge Roubaix - very sturdy - and intend to race the JETs this season. The Jet 4's I've run in 15 mph winds and 25 mph wind gusts and my opinion they're just the right depth for all round use.
