Rather than just slap a disc brake hub on their incredibly light and stiff rims, ENVE went back to the drawing board to design a truly disc brake specific rim design. These disc-specific rims boast better airlfow, added stability, and featherlight weight.
By removing the rim brake track, ENVE gives the rim a slight curve to facilitate better airflow between the tire and rim. Designed to not only provide disc brake bikes with race worthy speed, ENVE also wants to ensure that those who follow the current trend towards higher volume tires and tubeless setups aren't left out in the cold either. With a wheelset this versatile and fast, this just might be the quiver killer wheelset.
In order to deliver the type of speed and impeccable handling we've come to expect from ENVE, the 5.6 wheelset pairs a 54mm front rim with a 63mm rear wheel, built using their Smart ENVE System. Rather than drilling in spoke holes, nipple seats and valve stem holes, ENVE molds them into the carbon fiber, resulting in a lighter and stronger rim. Once the molding is complete, ENVE is able to remove the inflatable bladder from within the rim, further reducing weight and irregularities on the internal surface of the wheel. Finally, ENVE laces their new rim design to the lightweight DT Swiss 240s hubs using 24 spokes front and rear, providing a smooth rolling experience that accelerates quickly.
