Description

The Speedier Tire Lever from Crank Brothers features a protective shield that covers the top side of fingers to prevent bumps and abrasions as the lever is moved around the inside of the rim to unseat the tire. For installation, the hook end easily seats the tire inside the rim without pinching the tube. The Speedier Tire Lever is strong enough to remove tires with a wire bead but pliable enough to not damage the rim in the process.

Length 144mm; Weight 26g.

Helpful to seat difficult clinchers

Used it to seat some Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700x28's on my daily commuter. The first time I got those tires on (without the Speedier) and needed help from a friend, I realized if I get a flat on the road, I'm not 100% sure I'd be able to fix it, so I had to practice at home with the Speedier.

The Speedier effortlessly got most of the bead on the rim, using the side that's used for the purpose, in almost no time at all (no sweating or swearing like the first time I got it on without it). I suppose I could have finished it off with the other side (the standard tire lever side), but I bought another tool as well due to some recommendations (Kool Stop Tire Bead), and had to give that a shot too, so that's what got the last little bit of section on the rim.

The side that seats the tire on the rim (not the regular lever side) is kind of small, and I was worried it might not fit on my rim, but it worked out fine for me on the Marathon Plus tires (haven't tried it on anything else yet). I suppose it might not work on a really thick rim (like for winter tires or something, I don't have any), but it's only a few bucks if you find it doesn't fit. The downside is that it's a little bigger that something like a stack of two regular plastic tire levers, but it's not a problem in my bag on my commuter bike.

Not a Cure-all but Worth Trying
by Anonymous

I bought this to experiment with on the Continental Contact 28mm tires on my fixed-gear and general-use bikes. The tires have very stiff beads. A caveat of this review is that I have thus far used the lever only once.

My primary interest was seeing if the "install" end would simplify installing the new tube without pinching it. I didn't find the lever particularly advantageous in removing the tube. It got under the bead ok but I needed a second lever once the process was started. Practice might improve this aspect.

As for the install, I found the lever awkward in the sense that the space between the lip of the lever and the lever body is narrow enough that it took a lot of fiddling to get it onto the rim of a 700c road wheel. Once on, the lever worked as advertised but it took a lot strength to move it around the entire rim. However, the lever eventually got the job done without pinching the tube.

It took me a good 20 minutes, maybe more, to remove the old tube and install the new one.

The lever may be too large to fit in the average bike bag. That said, I think most cyclists would benefit from having this lever on hand, especially for the install of the new tube.

The tire lever you need to have

This tire lever really is the only tool that works for me on my tubeless ready rims that I'm still running with tubes. Tires that were previously nearly impossible to mount for me now find their place with the aid of this tool. Honestly, I had been stuck roadside for a good half-hour wrestling tires off and back onto my wheels before I got this lever (never had such difficulty before the tubeless ready wheels, seems to be something about the deep middle channel that makes a standard tube replacement difficult). The process was transformed from hellacious to possible thanks to this design. Highly recommended to anyone riding tubes on tubeless-ready rims.

Great tool for the especially difficult tirerim combo

I am a big fan of Schwalbe Marathon plus tires but they are horrible to get on and off of my rims. (After reading reviews of other tires and rims it seems this is not a unique problem.) After breaking several plastic tire irons and leaving scars from a screwdriver. I decided to try crank brother's lever. I have been totally impressed, they make it so much faster and simpler, like any good tool they make the job seem easy.

Great shop tool

This tire lever is obviously too big to carry with you on the bike but it is excellent for use in changing tires back in your shop/garage. The handle makes for a good grip when mounting/removing tires from the rim. It is strong enough that you don't have to worry about breaking the tip and it grips the tire bead well, The bottom part works well for hooking over the rim when installing tires and is labeled "Install" so there's no confusion about its purpose. The tip is likewise labeled "Remove". I've had this for a few years and bought a second one as a gift for a friend.

Overall this worked well at installing a Gatorskin Hardcase tire, which are tough to install. It actually worked better than the QuickStik as it didn't bend like some have. I keep this in my home shop and use it often.

The ONLY Tire Lever

This tire lever works FLAWLESSLY for me for both removing and for re-rimming the tire. I have tried countless others which either did not work or simply broke (warning: stay away from the steel core levers - worthless). These are lightweight but, perhaps, bulkier than others - still easy to pack on the bike or in a pocket or just hung on the outside of a pack.

No more blisters and cuts to hands
by Mark A
Casual Cyclist

Prior to investing in this tool I would painstakingly massage the tires until I finally got it on the rim. I was doing this for tires sizes between 26x2.25 to 26x1.6. Once installed my hands would suffer from blisters and cuts to my cuticles. Otherwise when removing tires I would cutsscratch my hands when my screw-driver back fires from the force....

Then I decided to invest in some 26x1.125. There is no way I could of massage that size of tire. The Crank Bros Speedier Tire Lever made installation of these tires in less than 4mins. The device really makes the installationremoval process easy because you can grip it while pullingleveraging towards your body.

I highly recommend this tool.

Great tool for those stubborn tight tires that would bend or break most standard levers.

I have an old 27 bicycle and the newer 1 tires are a challenge to install and remove. Over the years I have broke or bent levers beyond useful. This is the answer if you would rather have the lever do all the work (instead of you). Save your hands and invest in one of these tools.

Great levers!

These larger levers really allow you to lean into changing a flat. Less risk of finger damage as well. I found that with smaller levers, it was harder for me to really pull on the tire. Two of these levers are little bulkier to carry but well worth it in my opinion.

Better than the rest
by Ant

I let my brother borrow mine and he said he was going to order his own later. We he didn't give me mine back yet. This always happens with good tools...no one returns them. I think I'm also guilty of doing it. Good these suckers don't cost to much. Best levers I've used.

I have had the worst luck with flats on some awful roads. At one point I was changing a tube a week on the side of the road. The Speedier Tire Lever is strong and durable with all you need to change your tiretube. I'm now able to change it in 5 minutes and get back on the road.

I am finding that getting tightly seated tires is getting increasingly difficult as I get older. I find that tubed tires on tubeless rims can be especially tough to get off. This tire lever is definitely a help. I recommend it.

Not game-changing
by TXBiker

1 of 2 customers found this review helpful.

It's bigger, heavier, and that means most of you won't like it. It's also not as game-changing as the description suggests it is. In fact, the issue I have with removing tight beads isn't helped by this lever. I use it for my eBike, and since I carry a large pannier, the size isn't an issue. But no, Crank Bros hasn't made changing tires any speedier.
