I just bought these Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires in a 700 x 35c for my 2017 Specialized Crossroads hybrid comfort bike. The bike came with 700 x 45c Borough Armadillo Black Belt tires. I replaced the Borough tires because I wanted a dependable tire with superior flat protection, plus tires that were narrower than the 45c width.
First, let me say that these tires ARE NOT tough to get on your rims. I had both of the tires on the rims in less than a total of 15 minutes, start to finish. I simply inflated the inner tubes to where it had just enough air to get them inside the tire. Next, I started by inserting the valve in the rim, then I worked one side of the tire completely around the rim. Next, I began by pinching the other side of the tire and making sure the inner tube was completely inside the tire. I worked it around the rim until it began to get tight. Next, I again squeezed both sides of the tires and pushing them deep into the channel of the rim. I went around the tire, pushing with both hands, until there was enough slack to just easily push the tire onto the rim. Next, I simply inflated the tires, and put them back on my bike. I didn't need any straps, zip ties, nor rope, baby powder, nor any so called Magic Pixie Liquid, as I saw in a Youtube video from one guy in the UK. They are very easily installed if you simply take your time and push down on the tire until it becomes seated deep inside the rim.
After I installed the tires, I took my bike out for a short ride. The tires were much smoother than the Borough tires I had on the bike. I only inflated the tires to 60 PSI, but plan on inflating them to 80 PSI.
Oh, and just a bit of advice. The tires have to go on with the tread of the bike facing a certain way. It's stamped on the outer wall of the tire which way the direction of the tire turns. Just make a mental note of that as you put the tires on your rims. I'm sure you won't want to have to take them off and reinstall them anymore than you want to.
I have bought these tires for the last 7 years. My wife commutes to work 5 times a week and she is not the best at switching flats. specially in the cold weather out here in colorado. she bike all four seasons and these tires have get her from having to change many flats. I like there reflective outer wall as well as there beefy construction. They do and amazing job at keeping glass from entering the tube. The only times she has had to change tubes is when there has been a staple of nail pushing through all the barrier. The tread of the tires is really good on rain as well as light snow. The only negative thing i can say is that they can be a little tricky to take of the rim and sometimes put back on, but once they are broken in they are simple. These tires will definitely give you lots of miles, my wife has put over 3000 miles on them before i have had to retired them and she rides in crappy city streets and well as green belts. I am very happy with their performance!!
A must for touring. I won't tour with anything else.
Works well, solid commuter. No flats yet with about 3 months of use. I have 32mm & they worked well on gravel. Good all around tire.
Switched out for this set of Schwalbe Marathon Plus and I couldn't be happier! Easy to install and a great smooth ride
I ride daily on the always hot roadways of South Florida and have been very impressed by the flat protection provided as well as the exceptional wear of the Marathon Plus tires.
These tires have been great for allowing me to ride in bike lanes that are not well maintained and full of debris.
Just ordered my second set of these. No flats x 4 years of Chicago urban commuting until today.
This tire is not so nubby it slows me down but is armored enough to withstand punctures from our infamous goatheads. I look forward to trying it off-road on our upcoming GAPC&O trip in May.
Daily ride for 20-30 miles on the shoulder of a Highway. So far no flats.
I have over 5000 miles on these tires and 0 (ZERO) flat tires. Last summer I rode my bike across the USA on the Trans Am route and did not have any flat tires! That was 4600 miles across America. I love these tires and highly recommend them.
Put these on my Trek 920. Was a bit hard to get them to seat on my rims. Very smooth ride. Use these for commuting.
A little hard to mount this tire, like all Schwalbe tires.
Repeat purchase after first tire rode well for commute almost 20 mi a day.
Only one serious flat in a year when the tire ate a deck screw on the rode and punctured. Otherwise survived the steady diet of glass and other debris better than the Armadillo tires I had been using.
After a year tread was still good but sidewall was starting to tear and so had to replace it.
Fit wheel snugly. Several years ago tried Schwalbe but they were too large and blew off the rim.
Product description says from the Netherlands but actual tire wall says Indonesia if you look closely.
Don't worry about these tires on Road off road riding a 47mm. A little on the heavy side but once they get going there's no stopping them
A great tire for loaded touring.
Our trails go from packed gravel, to packed decomposed stone, and to asphalt, these tires handle all if these substrates well. Running them on a Trek road bike and an ICE Vortex recumbent.
Over all best tires I have purchased, only bad thing is the reflective sidewall fades even with the cleaners I have used.
Look em up on bike rolling resistance, these tires are pretty great. Especially if you're willing to trade a little weight for dependability.
Worth every penny
