I started with Garmin Edge 530, and handed it down to my young adult child. Decided to splurge on the 1030 as a gift for myself. Ease of use- synced quickly and easily with smart phone and all the sensors on two different bikes- 1 road bike and 1 mountain bike. I rely on the feedback, ie, when wearing a heart rate monitor, the Edge recommends a recovery period, usually longer than I'd assign myself- as I have a hard time admitting my less than perfect fitness status. Smart phone messages show on the screen if sharing the same. Easy to change screens. I really like the touch screen. Screen is very easy to read: sun, night, up close, and far away. Garmin has been easy for me to use, and lots of online reviews to demonstrate functionality. The sensor bundle is top notch components. Includes everything you need to start using everything right of the box, including two different types of monitor mounts to choose from. Information shared easily with apps on a computer or smart phone. I use apple products with no issues so far. I'm a big fan of Garmin, and really like the Edge 1030 Plus. I did buy and apply a separate protective case and screen protector- not included with the bundle.
I started with a Garmin 530 Edge plus bundle. As a new consumer to both Bluetooth sensors and Garmin bike computers, I was very impressed. I've ridden bikes for years, and consider myself pretty basic. The useable information available is hugely important. Speed, distance, times, pedal RPM's, heart rate, and recommended recovery period after a bicycle ride. Nutrition and hydration recommendations/ tracking is available too. Info is shared with my smart phone, along with smart phone messages displayed on the Garmin device. I upgraded to the 1030 Edge plus for a feel and use close to a current smart phone. Maps/ navigation features are very convenient. I like that I can easily move a single computer between multiple bikes/exercisers/or exercises and their own respective ANT or Bluetooth sensors. At this point, my family takes advantage of Garmin: two 1030 plus and two 530 plus. Each covering two different bikes, and walking sessions. The Garmin connect app is easy to use, and easy to pair. Highly recommend for basic to serious exercise fanatics. If price is a negative factor, the 530 is a great computer at a smaller size and no touch screen. I avoided the 830 due to cost and only gaining touch screen- the 1030 seemed a better overall upgrade deal to me and my spouse, and we moved our first computers to our children.
Coming from the 5 series Garmin Edge to this device changed everything. Visibility, battery, and function. If you're worried about a few extra grams and aero effect, you should really think about what matters more. Your training insights and ease of use are what's going to get you faster and make you go farther. Easy setup. Transfers your devices from other computer, at least from another Edge. The out front mount is nice too. You'll want the longer mount due to limited space between computer and bars on the standard mount. This isn't a splurge. It's a necessity.
The Garmin 1030 Plus is an innovative and easy-to-use bike computer. Awesome on screen options with multiple data field choices. Would recommend spending the additional $$ on the bundle. Highly recommend as a significant upgrade to any current bike computer.
Everything arrived as expected.
I was concerned about spending the $$ to upgrade from the 1000, but the screen is noticeably larger, and allows for a more fields. If you are not using this paired with a Garmin Varia Radar light, id highly suggest that as well. Like all Garmin products, the 1030 plus bundle come at a premium price though.
Ain't nothing finer than this-the ultimate bike computer that I gifted myself with.
