So aero it shaved off the "e".

Oakley's new three-tiered helmet line is designed to offer aerodynamic performance that doesn't skimp on quality-of-life improving features, like seamless optics integration and an optimal 360° fit. The ARO5 sits right in the middle of the line, not as aero-optimized as the TT-inspired ARO7, yet with more of an aero profile than the well-ventilated, lightweight ARO3, this version occupies the Goldie Locks zone between aero performance and a breezy, cool head.

The one thing that doesn't change between the models is the uncompromising safety offered by the lightweight helmet's design, and augmented by the MIPS Brain Protection System. This low-friction barrier reduces rotational forces that occur from angled impacts, offering added protection while out on the road. With optical integration in mind, the ARO5's minimally-vented body provides a conveniently secure storage place for your glasses when they're not needed, and with the BOA FS1-S fit system, the textile-like TX1 lace sits flush with your head for an uncompromised fit.

Features:

  • Specializes in seamless optics integration, optimal fit, and aero performance without compromising ventilation.
  • MIPS Brain Protection System reduces rotational forces on the brain resulting from angled impacts.
  • BOA FS1-S 360° Fit System is height adjustable, and sits flush with the head for seamless eyewear integration.
  • X-STATIC browpad is moisture wicking and anti-microbial for the ultimate in comfort.
  • Claimed weight: 300 grams.

Road riding in the heat and humidity, the temps feel a lot cooler with AR 05 on my head.

Mediocre

At first glance, I would give this helmet a 10 for style. Once I took it out of the box, though, my excitement dwindled. My first issue with the helmet was the height adjustment tab. For such an expensive helmet, the plastic piece is flimsy and snaps in and out of place for adjustments. Once it is snapped into place, it is very difficult to remove, if you're not careful you will break the piece. My next problem is while actually wearing the helmet At speed the air rushing into the large scoop at the back pulls the helmet away from your head. Very poor design. The only way to alleviate this problem to some degree is to wear a thin skullcap or sweatband like Headsweats as you can tighten the securing nob for a better grip. Lastly, for a manufacturer of sunglasses, I am disappointed with how I am unable to slide my Oakley Jawbreakers into the air vents when not in use (they do not secure nearly well enough and WILL slide right out the moment you tilt your head forward). So, taking these issues into account, it's a great looking but rather poorly designed helmet. For the price there are better quality options.
