Bought these to replace a pair of nearly 10 year old Shimano M161. My first pair of shoes with BOA, which is a useful feature for bike shoes. The sole is very stiff which is great. The leather is incredibly soft and supple, so you'll probably want to take the time to keep them clean and apply conditioner, which is something I'm used to for dress shoes but never for MTB shoes in the past. There are nice durable scuff pad to protect the leather in the right places. These seem to me to fit just a little larger than my Shimanos, so you might consider getting one size smaller in the EU size, if I were to order again I would probably go down a size. I use high arch insoles and there is plenty of volume to accommodate. One last thing, another reviewer mentioned the heel was a little loose - I have a wide forefoot but relatively narrow heel and I would agree on that front.
Gotta say these shoes have been a game changer for me, and I'm really loving them. I've got pretty wide feet, buy wide size shoes where I can, but finding good fitting athletic shoes has always been a struggle. These Lake shoes are the first performance cycling shoes that I can ride in for hours putting some power down and not get foot pain - none whatsoever! Foot pain is always something I've dealt with, and now I don't!! The natural leather also seems to help regulate temperature a bit when it's hot out, my feet don't feel as hot as they do in synthetic shoes.
These Lakes are definitely for folks with wide feet! I've had several pairs of wide cycling shoes over the years, including winter boots from Lake, and these feel noticeably wider than any of them. I even have to tighten them down quite a bit to get them snug, and there's still room to wiggle my toes a bit. I use them for regular road and gravel, not cyclocross.
If you have wide feet, and are looking for a good quality two bolt shoe, definitely check these out.
I have 2 pair of this shoe. I've a wide foot, and have found it hard to get a good fit. My prior shoe was a Specialized Wide MB shoe (though almost all of my riding is Road, MB are much easier and safer to walk in) but no longer made, apparently, so these are the next best thing. I little more pricey, but on sale a good value.
I had Lake MX237-wide for a few years, and it was time to replace them after a rough season. So I did not hesitate and ordered the next iteration of the shoes, assuming not much has changed. But something did. The shoe itself got better, the toe and heal additions, and I like the grip of Lycra heel. But right after opening the box it. was clear that those shoes are much wider than the ones I had. I tried them on, and my feet were just bouncing inside of a toe box. Not good. Then I measured the shoe. The carbon fiber sole is the same width, but the leather part is wider than the original by 10mm, which is a lot! I have wide feet, wearing 2E New Balance, but those are like 4E. That is even without taking into account that the leather will stretch.
These are the widest shoes I have ever worn. I even used the Lake website and measured my feet and these were in the range. But I have to cinch them pretty tightly to minimize the heel lift. Thicker socks help, also. I will use them in Winter more with heavy socks and somewhat less aggressive riding. They are very comfortable, well-made, and adjustable with the dual BOAs. You may have to grind out some of the sole material around your cleat to make entry easier for SPD. The channel is very narrow and hard to align. I like them, but they are not for racing because they are heavy and the fit is loose. Get standard or normal wide sizes for that.
I typically wear a size 12 street shoes. My previous cycling shoes were a 46.5 giro privateer HV (high volume). In this shoe I wear a 45 wide because it is actually wide enough to fit properly. They have been super comfortable since the first ride. The best shoes are the ones you don't notice while riding and these simply disappear.
Finally found a shoe that fits my foot. (size 46 wide) I'm 6'-2" 180 lbs.
A real wide fit with the cut of this shoe and loose over the top of my foot so no more Hot foot on the outer right edge and no more numb toes.
Managed to get these on sale so ever better value but most importantly can ride without pain.
It was time to get new MTB shoes and I'd recently had a bad experience with a road shoe being way too narrow. I did all the online measuring from Lake and used their informative breakdown of which shoe last works best with foot measurements. These were dead on. Very pleased.
