The Fizik Tempo Aliante R1 Open is a lightweight endurance cycling saddle, featuring a waved profile, generous central cut-out, carbon reinforced shell and full carbon rails to balance support, comfort, and performance.
First launched exactly two decades ago, the Tempo Aliante saddle took the cycling world by storm in 2003 with its innovative design that prioritized rider comfort—so much so that it was even nicknamed "le sofa" in France—and it has been supporting long-distance cyclists ever since. To mark the twentieth anniversary of Aliante, Fizik are introducing their latest take on this timeless design.
Aliante is a waved saddle that features a gradual, tapered transition from wing to nose. With a slightly wider platform to support the ischial bones, it improves stability and weight distribution for all-day rides. With a focus on comfort, the newly redesigned Aliante has a flatter surface to allow for more evenly spread pressure and a balanced feel, especially useful on extended endurance rides.
The OPEN version features an ergonomic cutout, developed using detailed analysis and input from medical experts, that helps to relieve pressure and facilitate blood flow. Additionally, the generous padding has been engineered with a double-density foam, firmer on the ischial bones, softer on the nose, to provide every rider the right support, regardless of riding position, without creating undue pressure.

As an Aliante user, I was looking forward to owning this saddle. However, this saddle departs from the Aliante template enough that is should have a different name. The saddle is flatter than the traditional Aliante, meaning that it puts more pressure on the sit bones. Additionally, the foam is very hard, especially compared to my 2 older Aliantes. So beware. I figured that since I've used Aliante saddles for over a decade that this would work for me; and so I didn't keep the box and am now stuck with it. It's not a bad saddle in terms of construction, and the weight came-in around 179g. But the hard foam and flatter profile (less lateral drop-off) made this saddle uncomfortable compared to others in the Aliante lineup.
