I recently decided to switch to wax lubrication. We have 10 bikes. Six bikes were ready for a new chain...so, we used strip chip for the new chains. I had a few bikes that had used chains. I decided to use Silca Ultimate Chain Stripper to prep these for waxing. I ran them thru a wash of simple green, acetone, and denatured alcohol. Then physically wiped crude still showong on rollers. The final step was using the Silca Chain Striper...and wow! what a difference!!! I could see how much extra crude got removed...and a quick rinse and dry with compressed air...I was ready for Wax.
I used it to degrease a new Shimano 12 speed chain before waxing it with the Silca Secret Chain Blend hot wax.
It worked great.
It was nice to not use several rinses of paint thinner and then alcohol to strip the factory grease in preparation for hot waxing.
Utilized for first time on two chains, one brand new and one lightly used (without stripping mfg grease and/or applying lube). Worked well, does seem to leave a 'primer' coating prior to hot wax as touted. Discarded amount used after second chain but if it was brand new likely could have used it a few more times due to no contaminants. QUICKER/EASIER than ultrasound degrease and alcohol rinse as used and recommend by Silca prior to this product being available.
A great product from Silca. It strips your chain like it says it does. Recently, I used it in my ultrasonic cleaner for even better results. Either in a jar or in an ultrasonic cleaner, it works well.
Very easy to use and safe as well. Just drop your chain in a wide mouth jar, add chain stripper, and shake. Let it sit for a while and shake again. Then rinse off with plain water. Removes all the grease and road grime but doesn't remove any wax! Brilliant!
I can't say that I have scientifically proven that this stuff works as well as it says it does but I can say that my chains are waxing beautifully after I strip them with it. It is very easy to use and overall a winner.
For stripping factory grease off your chain, which every one should do. Follow up with SS wax.
The Silca Chain degreaser works !
I did run my new Campy chain through the degreaser twice just to be on the safe side. Then hot waxed with Silca hot melt wax , put it on the bike and I will use Silca SS drip wax for the life of the chain.
Good stuff for degreasing a new chain
Worked perfectly and as advertised. I highly recommend watching Silcas videos online as there are specific procedures. I was able to use both with the chain off and on the bike. Great value as you will get a ton of uses and the product itself is safe to use
This is a huge improvement over my previous 3+ step routine. Used this on what I thought was a pretty clean chain and was blown away by how much grease and residue it pulled out. I would recommend checking out Silca's videos about how to best use this.
Ive used other wax cleaners but this product, on one use, seems effective. Very clean with minimal effort. I look forward to a full cycle cleaning process.
