Nuun is a great option for your water bottle, as it offers electrolytes and flavor without adding much sweetness. It makes for a refreshing drink rather than an overly sugary concoction. Even better - it comes in a convenient tab form, and the tubes are a great size for carrying around.
These tablets are very easy to use just drop them into your water bottle and they dissolve like alka-seltzer. The resulting electrolyte-enhanced flavored water has a pleasant taste that isn't overly sweet. Just enough added taste to cover the added salt and make it easy to stay hydrated. The container is easy to keep in a jersey pocket and protects the tablets from getting crushed.
I've been using nuun exclusively in my water bottles for the past couple years. Great supplement, tasty flavors, dissolves wo a mess or chunks, not sticky and doesn't leave a mess on my bike.
this product keeps me level through the long hot summer rides.
This is the drink option for people who don't want something very strong or artificial tasting. And the tablets are convenient to bring on longer rides. It kept me from getting too dehydrated on a century in hot weather and high altitude.
My family is pretty athletic. Tennis, swim, cycling, running, football, soccer, and generally working out in the heat. We generally stick to water and avoid gatorade like the plague. The whole family loves popping a Nuun tablet in our water bottle before excessive heat or sweating. Good stuff!
I typically use Nuuns to avoid cramping during long summer ridesraces. I've tried a few flavors, and actually got Lemonade by mistake at first... and now I keep using them! I love the tablet format (easy to pack a few extras in a jersey pocket). And this flavor is not too strong nor chemical. Water doesn't get fizzy, and even in warm-er water it's still OK.
I haven't used many different e'lyte solutions, but I prefer the tabs to powder and can bring extra along for long rides. I use one tab in a 24oz bottle which is less than recommended and use 2 tabs in every other bottle if it's going to be a hot day, every bottle if I'm flagging. Mantra drink drink drink works great except for having to get off the bike frequently to visit nature. It can be a pain but must mean it's working.
Always carry a couple for my long rides and it's great to take away the nasty flavor from sink water.
If you are looking for an electrolyte drink, this should be on your short list. It is easy to carry these tablets and use them anywhere. I use them for my cycling and when traveling. They have a great, light flavor and don't have all the sugar and corn syrup that most sport drinks have.
I like this because it's more natural than Gatorade and the fruit punch is one of my favorites.
I'm skeptical of most of the sugary snacks that are supposed to power you up in your ride, but NUUN is not that. It works. Electrolytes help out on hot days. Keeps me going for those longer rides.
Not too sugary or full of sodium. I have tried orange and lime so far and like them both. Will try all flavors. Very convenient to use.
My biggest complaint with hydration was the fact it didn't come with caffeine. This stuff not only tastes good, the caffeine kick sure helps on longer rides.
I though I'd give Nuun tablets a try. Never again. Why?
Drop an Alka Seltzer tablet into a full Water Bottle. Drop a Cherry Vicks Cough Drop into same water bottle. Shake. Place in holder, ride.
Take a swig.
Yep, that's why.
I'll stick with Gu and CytoMax.
I've been using Nuun pretty much since their inception. I've found a majority of the berry flavors as well as the caffeinated flavors not only tasty but the extra caffeine kick is noticeable.
Additionally, I also love the fact that if you spill it on you (-dribbling down your chin, for instance) it's not sticky.
I gave these a go while I was out of OSMO and Skratch powder. The flavor is awesome and they provide some nice variety. I also like having the small dose of caffeine along the way. On longer, warmer days I find myself cramping more with this than I do with OSMO though. It may be mental - but it's enough to keep this from being my primary electrolyte drink.
I keep a couple of these wrapped in Saran Wrap in my saddle bag to take with me in case I run out of G2. To me the taste is so-so but tolerable and would be better to have with you than nothing at all. I tried the Lemon Tea so don't have a taste comparison for other Nuun flavors.
I cycle in South Central Texas where it gets really HOT. I am forever grateful for Nuun tablets. I have no use for gatorade and other sugary supplements. Nuun does the job and isn't too sweet. I always have some in stock.
Caffeine, hydration, good taste. Just what I wanted in a road tab. Allows for longer rides. Love this stuff!!
