I run the pd-m9100 on all my gravel bikes but I wanted to see how the platform felt on a mountain bike. Very solid feel but the outer cage deflects the rock garden type stuff from hitting your shoe and knocking it off the pedal. So while they are a bit heavier than some other spd pedals they have the benefit of some minor protections. Few hundred miles on them already and don't think I'll be swapping to the m9100s any time soon. At this price these are a steal.
I've been using these pedals for a few weeks now, and they've exceeded my expectations! The build quality is exceptional ' they feel solid and durable. I appreciate the wide platform, which provides excellent stability and comfort during long rides. Whether on gravel roads or single track, these pedals performed flawlessly, giving me the confidence to take on more challenging rides. Installation was straightforward, and they fit perfectly on my bike. Overall, these pedals are a must-have for any gravel or mountain bike rider looking for a reliable, high-performance upgrade. Highly recommended!
I put these on my road bike. I know that isn't exactly the norm, but I found it to be great. You can clip in from either side of the petal. You can easily adjust the amount of tension or how easy it is to pop out. I found that for me there was a greater range of shoes I could pick from. They spin easy (good bearings). Although these will never see a trail, I found that were just what I wanted. Overall I'm very pleased with them and would recommend them. Took a little time to get use to clipping in with them and now it seems so natural. I find I can do it without looking down.
I love these Shimano XT PD-M8120 Pedals. My first time using clip in pedals, I put them on my Trek Madone 4.5 Road Bike. They make a difference for continuous power when pedaling. Also the larger platform makes its easy to clip in and clip out. I did a 3 day 250 mile cycling event and they definitly made a difference. The price here was the best I found well worth it.
I purchased these to replace 10 year old XTs that I wore out. I could rebuild the old ones but I got more than my money's worth. The new ones are excellent and I expect they will last at least as long.
I like the larger platform for Mountain biking. My last XTR large platform pedals lasted 7 years before I finally wore out the bearings. I went with the XT's this time, way less money than the xtr and not that much heavier.

I like these pedals, a little on the heavy side but good platform if you want a little more support on your strokes.
Could be ridden with trainers occasionally, but would not recommend.
Noticeably more stable for endurotrail riding! Ive used SPDs 550s and the like for years for XC, trail, cyclocross, & I love them for their simplicity, reliability, mud shedding, lightness, etc, but then I wondered why I was worried about a weight penalty on my 32 lb full squish? These bigger platform SPDs add a subtle but noticeably improved contact with the bike. I definitely recommend them!
