Part of Oakley's newest line-up of premium cycling helmets, the Aro3 Lite Helmet is the lightest, most ventilated lid offered by the iconic eyewear company.
Instead of focusing strictly on creating an aerodynamic, streamlined helmet, the Aro3 Helmet maximizes ventilation with elongated linear vents at the front side. This is also paired with specialized rear vents that promote airflow when you're climbing in a slow and steady manner. Long days in the saddle can lead to some pretty undesirable smells, especially on warmer days when the sun is beating down. To eliminate some of the sweat, the Aro3 features an X-Static brow pad, which delivers comfortable and stink-free wearability.
Seeing it's ventilated more than any helmet in Oakley's line-up, it only weighs 295 grams, meaning you'll barely even feel it there on longer rides. Besides being airy-cool and extremely lightweight atop your head, the Aro3 integrates seamlessly with your favorite shades. This is due to Oakley's use of a Boa 360-degree fit system, complete with lie-flat nylon bands that won't snag or catch on sunglasses arms like other fit systems on the market. There's even a handy sunglasses dock along the front side, so you can stash your shades before walking into the cafe or pulling off the road to consult a map stored on your phone.

This is a great helmet at a great value with one fatal flaw (for me). The much-talked-about eyewear dock seems to only accommodate sunglasses that have a very straight arm. My Rapha frameless arms has a minor bend and a lot of grippy surface, nothing extreme, but it's enough to prevent me from storing the glasses up there. POC glasses (straight arm, not a lot of grip) go in just fine. I like the non-mushroomy style of this helmet but I'm going to have to return it.
This helmet lives up to its name, being very lightweight and unobtrusive. There is not much padding but that just means not much for sweat to absorb into. Pads are not really necessary as the helmet is so lightweight you will hardly even notice it is there. I put it on and forget about it, which is exactly what a helmet should do.
One feature I like is the sunglass holder on the front, it is a good place that is out of the way and won't fall off, even when taking the helmet on and off before or after a ride.
So I bought this helmet in Navy blue last year. Worked great! I love this helmet, but yesterday, I put it on to go out on an unusually warm February day in New England, and lo and behold, the entire helmet "cage" inside had come disconnected from the helmet, so the helmet itself is entirely useless now. (No, it was properly kept, off-season, on a shelf). I can't believe the cheap construction. It's too bad, because the helmet fit right. I'd tried a POC before this and it was no good-- didn't fit right. This was excellent. Looks like I'm going running back to Bell or Giro.
I needed a new road helmet and had previously purchased the oakley mountain helmet a couple of years ago. I decided to give the ARO3 a chance because I loved the BOA on my mountain helmet and purchased this one. This helmet is lite and so easy to adjust with the BOA. I would recommend this helmet to anyone. It runs a little small my mountain helmet is a medium and with the road helmet I purchased a large.
I wear a pair of prescription Oakley sunglasses while cycling. The straps on several other brands of quality helmets rub against the earpieces of my glasses, causing them to ride up or just be uncomfortable. Not a problem with this helmet. Light and comfortable; kinda forget you're wearing it.
