So far this has been the best option for getting rid of my front derailleur. I haven't had to add a chain catcher yet.
I have a Masi CX bike that I use for commuting and when I go to areas where the roads are gravel half the time. I wanted to get rid of the front derailer since I just didn't need the gearing options it was providing. The Race Face narrow wide chainring was the easiest option and through a steady several months of use, has never dropped the chain. I am very happy with the purchase
I was having some issues with front shifting during cross races, and realized a single front ring that splits the difference between two large and small rings could be the ticket. I shortened my chain half a link, threw this badboy on, and haven't dropped my chain since. This ring combined with a 10 or 11 speed rear setup works amazingly well for cross, never skipping a beat (or a tooth for that matter). A slick looking and pretty affordable way to lighten up your cross bike and simplify your setup without needing to add chain guides, clutch derailleurs, etc.
