A classic chain lube

I shouldn't have ever gone away from this lube in the first place. Between Mtn biking and commuting, I started using Boeshield about 8 years ago. Boeshield works great on my Mtn Bike, but not so great on my commuter. And since I just bought a new road bike this year, I didn't want the buildup that comes with wax based lubes. So, back to ProGold.

When I used this lube before, I would do a ride and then put this on the chain before I put the bike away. The process that works best is to thoroughly wet the chain and then use paper towels to soak up the excess and rub the chain until the towels come away clean. Anything left evaporates and the chain is ready for the next ride. This every-ride routine has the added benefit of keeping the chain very shiny. The only negative is the smell. Make sure you lube outside of the house and give it at least a couple of hours to gas-off.

Now YMMV, but when I used this lube before, I rarely replaced my commuter bike chains. But since I started using Bowshield on my commuter, I've replaced 2 chains, 1 rear cluster, and 1 chainring. I think I'll start using this on my commuter bike again.

Smooth as butter
by Anonymous

This is one of the best chain lubricants I've tried. Had bought many different ones but they would dry out fast. This is definitely worth the money.

I've tried multiple lubes over the years but always go back to this one. It wears well and doesn't build up or leave a mess.

Seek no more - here be the perfect chain lube

I ordered this to try something else. The other lubes were good - very good - but no matter how diligent I was with application, wipe down, puddle avoidance, etc, my drive train turned black after two rides. My chains lasted (DA or Ultegra only, 3500-4500 miles), but it took constant attention, cleaning, wiping, re-application, and diligence.

I ordered ProGold ProLink, both Heavy Duty and Regular (HD is for my rain bike). I cleaned the drivetrain, let it dry, then applied in accordance with the directions.

The next morning I rolled out for a ride (mid-winter, lots of salt, cinders, and dirt) and rode 20. The drivetrain was quiet (good) and remained silver (VERY good). I rode the next week indoors (snow, ice, wind is unfun). Still clean. I rode 30 outdoors on Saturday - still clean.

This is the first lube I've used in over 30 years of road cycling that doesn't attract and hold dirt - it's amazing. It smells like kerosene (and that may be the secret) but I don't care. This stuff is GREAT, and I can highly recommend it! Just keep away from open flames while applying.

Nice light lube

Very light. A little goes a long way, just a drop on each link. Noticeably quiets chain noise and improves shifting.

Great in dry weather, lasting several hundred miles. It is less durable in wetter weather.

This is the best chain lube I have ever used. Smooth, clean and quite chain. I rarely need to use a chain cleaner as it it's comes out nice and shiny after every application. Best if you can let it sit overnioght.

Best cleanerlubricant I've used so far! I've tried quite a few to use in the rainy northwest, and ProLink seems to be the best in wet, dirty conditions.

Excellent, Excellent Chain Lube, My New Favorite!!
by Anonymous
Cycling Enthusiast

This was not available at the local bike shops here, and I'd heard good things about it. I bike commute daily, and have tried many, and have to say this is turning out to be my favorite. Excellent lubrication, nor does it seem to cake up or collect a bunch of grime and dirt. My cassette and chain stay cleaner. This is not a super heavy oil, nor is it so light that it washes out with a couple of rains. Am very pleased.

I've used Prolink for the past 7 years and am very happy with how well it protects my chains. I get between 2000 miles and 4000 miles on an Ultegra chain in Northern California (mostly dry rides).

I've been using this for years and it's the best I've found. I use for a combination of cleaning and lubing and it excels. Especially good for those rainy winters.

Ive used many different chain lubes over the years and Progold Prolink is by far the best. This chain lube has great lubrication properties and keeps the chain cleaner for longer.

This is very dry lube. It actually cleans the chain while lubing it. I use this lube exclusively, and never had had any issues.

Does a good job. Better than the Teflon stuff.

Teflon and Tri flow was not working for me. After a few rides the chain stated to make noises. A few drops of this and the noise is gone. I can focus on my riding again. The chain looks cleaner after my rides too.

This is the best chain lube I've ever used, and I've used a lot through the years. It runs clean and the applicator bottle, unlike some, doesn't suck.

Excellent everyday lube
by JFR

ProGold Prolink is an excellent chain lube. Easy to use. Ordinarily good for several hundred dry miles if chain is kept clean between rides. May not be the lowest friction, but seems to do a good job balancing that and durability.

Really runny

It's really runny. I usually use finish line dry. This was on sale so I tried it. It's really runny and sort of splashes off the chain. The lubrication is adequate but it's not magic. I'll stick with FL.

Lubricates and cleans chains making a silent drive-train. Apply immediately after a ride, let it penetrate, then wipe off excess with rags. After several applications you will be sold. Great lubricant!

After I clean my drivetrain I give everything a generous amount of Prolink, work it into the chain and wipe off the excess. Keeps me running smooth.
