This is the fourth or fiftyh time I have upgraded cables using the Jagwire kit. Easy to install, and a marked improvement in shifting and braking over the original parts I replaced. I highly recommend them.
This is the first time I have used these cables, and I have to say so far I am impressed. Shifting has shown a noticeable improvement, with every shift being clean and crisp. It also seems like it takes significantly less effort to effect a gear change, versus the Shimano cables I previously had on the bike.
My one complaint is that the ferrules they provide don't fit properly in the cable stops, and their instructions say these are integral to the system and shouldn't be replaced with standard ferrules. Even given the loose fit of the ferrules, it does not seem to affect the performance of the cables.
disclaimer, Been a long time since I changed cables. These cables have been giving me smooth accurate shifting.
What a difference shifting is now that I've installed these great cables and sheathes. Noticeably smoother and less effort. The silver matches my bike, too!
I am a competitive racer riding 5 days a week averaging 300 miles a week.
I have 5 high end carbon road bikes, and have replaced all the Shimano DA cable sets with
JagWire sets. There are more expensive cable sets on the market, but why spend the money. Buy these on sale and keep a spare in stock.
I will never use Shimano cables again and I've been cycling for 20 plus years.
This kit includes everything you need to re-cable a road or cruiser bike - front & rear brakes as well as front & rear derailleurs.
The cables and housings are top-notch quality, and there are nice ferrules and cable crimps included too.
FYI, there is not enough cable housing to do full-length housing runs to the back.
I swear by these cables. Installation is easy and straight forward. Smooth breaking and shifting. The special coating really makes a difference. I have upgraded all of my bikes with Jagwire and have built several bikes using Jagwire Cables as well.Great Performance and worth every penny.
I replaced the standard cabling which came on a new bike I recently purchased. The Jagwire cable improved the smoothness and quickness of response in both braking and shifting from the standard cable which came on the bike.
Many colors to choose from, easy to install, comes with frame protectors and cable ends....a bunch of my friends use and no complaints...shifting is crisp and clean.
I started using this on my road and cross bike last year. It's a great product which is easy to install.
Really improved my shifting and breaking. I'm an older rider (65) but still go hard.
I have re cabled all my road bike and I have 5 carbon bikes.
Shimano da cable are junk compared to Jagwire Complete Race kit
With Da rear rerailleurs on all, I can't tell the difference between
105, ultegra, or DA shifters. The cables and rear derailleur make the difference.
It's been too long to compare these to my brand new Dura Ace cables but I'm very pleased with their performance now that they are installed! The shifting is very smooth and the housing looks great. My only issue is that I wish they would have included six more cable silencers for the down tubes.
I have used these cables on two bike builds now - a from-scratch build of a vintage road bike, and a major overhaul of an old mountain bike-turned-around-town-errand-runner. The housings are great and easy to work with. As a bonus, quite a bit of brake housing is provided, which was handy for my 63cm vintage road frame that requires the rear brake housing to run the entire length of the top tube. The action is super-smooth, and the cables themselves look very well-made.
My only two complaints, which prevented the 5-star rating It would be nice if the kit included 3-4 extra of each type of ferrule, useful if you're running interruptors or in-line adjusters. Also, the shift cable ferrules are just a teensy bit too big on the outside diameter for the cable stops on some vintage frames (I had to scavenge an old-school stamped steel ferrule for the rear derailleur stop). That said, these cables are definitely going on the next two bike projects I have planned.
Used to replace cables on an old Schwinn Varsity. Cables are tough Almost couldn't cut through with my wire cutters, Will be getting the Jagwire cutters. Good instructions. The housing ends have a different, very flexible, housing for about 6 in. Would be great on a modern bike when wrapping the cable in the handlebar tape. I just copied the old housing lengths and they came out a little short so you might want to cut a little longer. Shipping from this company was wicked fast. Got the package and then checked my email and found the tracking number. Two days from order.
This is easily the single nicest cable set I've ever bought. The cables themselves are smooth and run freely in the housing, I have found the shift quality to be superior to Shimano and quite nearly as good as Gore Ride-Ons, which are delicate and twice the price. SRAM users will appreciate the soldered ends to the cables, making installation much easier. The housing is durable and the colors vibrant. What really sets these apart is the thoughtful details, though. The kit includes a complete array of ferules, end caps, and silencer doughnuts, all of which are of very nice quality, as well as Jagwire's excellent rub protectors. The extra-flexible end sections to the brake housings are an absolutely brilliant design. Last but not least, Jagwire sells replacement inner cables for a fully reasonable price. These are the rarest of birds in the bike shop a durable, top-performing product that is also a fully decent value. Highly recommended.
For some reason I'm obsessed with cables. Linear housings with some kevlar in there for drailleurs AND brakes. What more can you ask for? Super good solid brake responsiveness, smooth shifting, light weight AND a jagwire sticker. I recommend this stuff to all my friends and I use it on all my bikes. Make sure you've got good cable cutters though or installation will be frustrating. I've been using sheet metal cutters from a hardware store and those work very well.
I've used Shimano DA cables. The DA brake housings are coiled not linear, not even comparable to the jagwire housings.
I have used Jagwire cables for quite awhile and they have been great. The quality is first rate and the low friction improves operation. Everything needed is in the kit with all fitting being first class.
Very complete, right down to the crimps for the end of the cables. The housing is excellent and the cables ultra smooth. The ferules are high quality and are better than factory IMHO. No complaints whatsoever.
