Zipp SpeedShop Sub-9 Disc Wheel / PowerTap SL+
When Zipp created their Sub-9 disc wheel people were shocked that a disc could produce negative drag. How can a company create such a wheel? The answer is simple, its the same company that brought you optimized bulged rims. The same company that pioneered Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control dimpled technology. The same company that are making the strongest tubular rims by developing their Carbon Bridge Technology. The list goes on, however the another addition to the immense list of accomplishments is creating the first disc wheel with a PowerTap hub!

One of the biggest drawbacks of using PowerTap for time-trialists and triathletes is that you couldn't use it with a disc. Those days are finally over! By completely redesigning a PowerTap hub, Zipp and Cycleops have joined together to create a Zipp disc with an internal PowerTap hub, thus creating the ultimate weapon in the PowerTap line. Still aerodynamically superior and only 1100g. In fact, the PowerTap internals only adds 100 grams of weight over the standard Zipp Sub-9 disc!

Additional Information:
  • Available in Campy (C-NOPP) or Shimano (S-NOPP)
  • 100% built in the United States

  • 1100g.

If you are currently riding a Scott Plasma triathlon bike from 2008 or before in a size less than a Medium you may have compatibility issues with the Zipp Sub-9 disc due to the placement of the bulge in the toriodal rim shape. Not sure if the disk will work with your Scott? Give us a call at 1-800-884-8743 and our friendly staff will verify for you!

FAQ: I just purchased a wheel with a PowerTap hub, but my PowerTap computer isn’t finding the hub! What should I do?!?!

Answer: This happens because the PowerTap computer can only store one 5-digit code at a time. Each PowerTap hub has a unique code that is broadcasted therefore the computer needs to learn this new code. Here are the steps to accomplish this:

When using a different hub you will need to learn the code that the hub is broadcasting. To accomplish this you should do the following:
    1. Spin the rear wheel to wake the hub out of sleep mode.
    2. Hold down MODE + SELECT till you see a screen that says "SEE EDt" with numbers 1-5 at the bottom. These are menus.
    3. Press SELECT till the number 5 is flashing
    4. Press MODE
    5. You are now on a screen that shows the HUB ID, which is a 5 digit code. It is set to the last hub your PowerTap computer was talking too.
    6. Press MODE, which scrolls through the numbers (you can manually set the numbers by pushing SELECT), till you see the word LEARN
    7. Hold down SELECT till LEARN starts flashing. Let go of SELECT. Your computer will now find the hub and store the 5-digit code!
    8. Continue to press MODE till you exit the Menu
    9. Go out and put the power down!!!
