Giro Ionos Helmet
Giro Ionos The Giro Ionos Helmet is the pinnacle of cycling helmets. Making a better helmet isn't easy, but Giro did it by carefully sculpting the Ionos' form and fully optimizing the shape and placement of its vents. They spent a freakish amount of time weighing every single part used in the construction of Ionos. And then they tried to figure out ways to make them lighter and better by utilizing new lightweight composite materials. The result? A cycling helmet so light, elegant and comfortable, it virtually disappears when you put it on.
After sculpting Ionos helmet around 21 massive vents, Giro carved a system of internal ventilation channels throughout the helmet's EPS liner with the Giro Wind Tunnel technology. By tuning and optimizing the system, Giro is able to thrust 15% more cool air across the rider's head than the market leading Atmos helmet. The ventilation system is so effective that riders wearing the Ionos helmet will be appreciably cooler than riders who choose to not wear a helmet at all. Even on the hottest days of the summer.
Helmet standards require Giro to test the Ionos for impact resistance, energy dissipation, roll-off, and a lot more. Ionos features In-mold construction with a sleek, four-piece shell. In-mold construction fuses the helmet's outer shell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. The two materials are fused together, and one is reinforced by the other. This 'exoskeleton' allows Ionos to be lighter, more durable and more ventilated than traditional road helmets.

How can a helmet be so light and cool and yet still meeting the industry's toughest standards? The Giro Ionos features a visible weave of composite called In-mold Composite Sub Frame, which runs throughout the helmet's liner and around the vents. With the use of composites, the sub-frame is tuned to provide incredible structural support, impact dispersion and resistance to penetration. And it's the secret to the Ionos' ability to offer great big vents without compromising protective capability.
The most consistent feedback we receive from professional riders is to make our helmets cooler. So that's just what we did. Ionos was developed utilizing our proprietary Wind Tunnel ventilation system, which combines the Ionos' 21 active vents with internal exhaust channels that thrust cool, fresh air over and around the riders' head-while forcing heat and stale air out.
