Problematic
February 2, 2012
I have repaired/replaced five (5) Garmin 310XTs. The interior unit condensation issue lasted for several years. On the most recent repair / replace the interior condensation issue of unit appears to have been solved. in addition, Garmin Engineers may solved the enter button failure. The Garmin 310XT can provide a lot of nice data however Garmin needs to put more resources into the refinement of the unit/widget. If out of warranty the Garmin 310XT repair/replace is $99 for a refurbished unit. Needs work.
Pros:
Multifunctional
Cons:
Unstable
Best Uses:
Outdoors, Endurance Training, General Fitness

I love this thing
May 31, 2011
Great computer/watch/HR monitor/GPS unit. I have used it on everything from triathlon racing and training to hiking. I have even used it in my jeep to tell what speed I am going. The GPS synchs up within 2 minutes, most times within 60 seconds. Unlike other units, tree cover does not bother it so much. There is so many options this watch could be overwheming, but I think Garmin did a great job of keeping it as simple as possible.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Sturdy, Multifunctional
Best Uses:
Endurance Training, Outdoors, Weight Loss, General Fitness, Sports Training

Great Upgrade from 305
December 27, 2010
The 310xt is a great upgrade from the 305, with longer battery life and a less bulky design. The software is more refined, with smoother transitions between screens and less lagginess overall. The swim compatibility is great too (nice to not worry about it) and the firmware upgrade that improved the swim mapping on Garmin Connect was a big step forward. The only small disappointments have to do with using it as a head unit for a power meter. I had no problems pairing it with my Powertap wheel, but you don't get all the options you do with the powertap head unit. This could be fixed with another firmware upgrade, and it's not a huge deal either. Overall I'm a big fan of this device (even though orange is not my favorite).
Pros:
Reliable Reception, Easy upload to computer, Great Battery Life, Accurate, Quick Signal
Cons:
Takes some work to set up
Best Uses:
Running, Cycling, Training, Racing

Garmin Forerunner 310XT

wrist strap came off once. have had to do 2 hard resets to correct lock-ups; you lose all user data w/ a hard reset to include historical workouts and HR zones. Can be worn all of the way through a triathlon which is a big improvement! No speed/pace zones are available. foot pod is great for treadmill running.

Garmin Forerunner 310XT
January 10, 2009
I have had this unit for several weeks now, and have nothing but praise for its capabilities. However the buckle on the wrist strap is not very substantial, and came apart on the second use. I was able to put it back together, but it has reduced my confidence in the unit staying on during the rigours of use. As I am going to replace the band with the quick release version for bike mount, it may not be a long-term problem, but still creates uncertainty in product quality.
