product description
The Garmin Forerunner 910XT is the next generation in Multi Sport watches from Garmin. The most advanced GPS watch known to man has been designed specifically for the triathlete. Garmin knows that you care about every little detail when it comes to training and racing so the did not pull any punches when they made the 910XT. The 910XT provides detailed swim metrics and tracks distance, pace, elevation and heart rate for running and cycling.

Swim

Designed for open water and pool swimming the 910XT is water resistant up to 50M and it offers detailed swim metrics such as swim distance, stroke count and length per stroke. Using the swolf score you can gage your swim efficiency and make the most out of your training.

Bike and Run

The 910XT is one of Garmins most advanced cycling/Run computers. The 910XT is Garmin's first multisport device to incorporate a barometric altimeter for highly accurate elevation data, including ascent, descent and grade. Configurable data fields let you customize multiple training pages for each sport. Set up vibration alerts to give a silent nudge when you hit a split, when its time to take nutrition or if you need a little feedback to stay within range of your goals. With these high-level features and up to 20 hours of battery life, the 910XT is ideal for athletes training for ultras or iron distance tris.

Power

Compatible with all ANT+ power meter devices so you can keep track of how hard you are training and racing so you can make sure you have enough left in the tank for the finnish shoot.

If you don't have one, you need one. Enough said. Training without one just doesn't make sense.

    Lots of great data!
    December 20, 2014
I love the fact that I can use this GPS watch for training as well as racing! Before, I just had a Garmin Forerunner that I could not swim with, so I had to spend time putting it on in transition or just wear a cheap waterproof watch that only told me my time, but not my average pace or current speed. Now I can look back at my splits from races. I can use it to swim in the pool as well as open water. Utilizing the heart rate monitor has also improved my training greatly since I can better determine the appropriate effort level. The ANT+ technology also makes it easy to upload your workouts to your computer.
    Pros:
Multisport mode, can be used for swimming (pool and open water modes), heart rate monitor
    Cons:
A little on the large side

Skip the HR monitor, keep the watch
    May 17, 2014
I love this watch, HOWEVER if I had it to do all over again I'd skip the HR monitor portion. It is never accurate and all over the place. I've switched out the battery and also updated all the software I can yet it is utterly useless. Last week I did a nice run through the mountains, no electrical lines to mess me up and it still had my HR over 200 for most of the run. while I'm at it the calorie counter (when not using the HR monitor) is pathetic and the ascent/decent part is almost comical. All of that said, for training, I'd still get it and at this sale price it's a great deal.
    Pros:
    Multifunctional, Easy To Use
    Cons:
    Not Effective, Unstable
    Best Uses:
    Sports Training, Outdoors, Endurance Training

One head unit to rule them all
    February 16, 2013
Having used Forerunners for training going back to the 305, this is certainly the best one yet. Highly configurable, yet usable out of the box, it is the center of my training and racing world. I use it for pretty much every aspect of training and racing - bike rides outside with my power meter and on my trainer, runs, open water swims, and even pool swims. Having a single device that tracks all of my data and stores it in a single location (Garmin Connect) is a great plus as I'm training for an Ironman race. I can track all of my workouts in real time and analyze my week at a glance at home on my computer. I can program in bike and run workouts beforehand for complicated intervals, and set power, pace, and heartrate limits to make sure I'm not going too hard or too easy when my mind wanders. In the pool, I no longer lose track of my laps or where I am in a set on my looong swim days (even if it's bulkier than Garmin's dedicated swim watch, and the "real" swimmers look at me funny). On race days, I set it to record every leg, including transitions. The battery lasts longer than any race I'd care to run (if I'm in a race that lasts more than 20 hours, I don't believe I'd want to remember it, let alone record the data.) Works seamlessly with my ANT+ power meter and a whole galaxy of accessories. I've read about issues people have had with the instant pacing being off ? I've noticed it seems to jump around a bit more than my 310XT did, but I've never given much credence to "instant" pace on a GPS. I've always used average or lap pace, and with those (over 6 months of use) the 910 seems to be right on.
    Pros:
    Multifunctional, Easy To Use, Compact
    Best Uses:
    Endurance Training, Ironman Races

    Garmin does it again!!!
    February 9, 2012
I have owned the 305, then the 310 and now the 910XT. It has several features better than the 310, mostly being the swim metric. It also adds a training value to help measure your workouts and it has different bike settings for each of my 3 bikes. (someone told me the 310 can do this as well) I like the size better and my wife likes the color. We bought 2 and are very happy. I say buy it!
    Pros:
    Easy To Use, Multifunctional
    Cons:
    Not yet
    Best Uses:
    Endurance Training
