CycleOps Magneto Trainer
January 12, 2007
I've been completely satisfied with the Magneto. My bike time is 75% on the trainer. With the progressive resistance, versus a five stage manual resistance (or other), I'm able to dial in the exact workout and heart rate I'm looking for... I'm able to shift up on down one gear to get within 1% of my objective heart rate. The other thing I like about the progressive resistance is that when it's time to hammer or spin, I just shift gears and go... it does all the work. I've read that working out on a trainer is 30% harder than on the road... that seems about right. Key is there is no coasting or downhills... from the time you stop peddling to when the wheel stops is less than a minute. The mechanism is smooth and reliable... I've been riding on it for two Winters now. If I had to pick a negative, it would be that I can't do a low gear, out of the saddle, hill climb... the resistance pretty much simulates flat terrain.
