product description
With a modern roller and the Continental Ultra Sport Hometrainer in the house, winter can set in when it wants to. Thanks to its special cold-running compound, the Ultra Sport Hometrainer doesnīt experience the heat buildup of a road tire, nor does it suffer the tread separation that the road tire is prone to under the special loads occurring when in cycling and braking on the rollerīs revolving drums. The Continental Ultra Sport Hometrainer has been designed specifically for rollers and trainers.

Good for the winter
December 18, 2013
I do agree with other reviewers that this tire is extremely difficult to get on, but I found that it was a great alternative to shredding up outdoor tires. It's a little thicker and more durable, and is great for putting on the rear tire through those long winter months when you still need to train for an early season IM!
Pros:
Durable, Stable

Great trainer tire
February 29, 2012
The Continental Ultra Sport is the best trainer tire I have used and more than worth the money. As others stated it is a bit difficult to get on (what Conti tire is easy to get on) but if you have any wrench skills at all you will be able to mount these on your bike. I have found that I can get 2+ winter seasons of riding on my Computrainer out of these tires with little worries. They are quiet and they don't melt to the drum and throw rubber all over the place like other trainer specific tires I have used in the past.

I wanted to use this tire to swap in and out with the tire on my Power Tap wheel to measure power when on the trainer. I've mounted and removed many tires without a tire lever, and when a lever was necessary, I never pinched a tube. The bead on this tire is so ridiculously tight that you certainly cannot mount or remove it by hand, and getting it on and off (particularly off), even with a lever, is a battle. The times I used the tire, I ultimately got it on and off, but it was a royal pain, and over time the process resulted in nicked decals on my wheels, two pinched tubes, and a broken tire lever. The ride on the trainer seems smooth, so if you're going to leave it on a wheel long term, it could work, but if you want to switch it back and forth, it's worthless, and actually ends up costing you money.

The only downside is trying to get them over the rims - it's like trying to put a 650 tire on a 700 rim. Otherwise, I have gotten very good milage out of it and prefer it to regular road tires for the trainer. It doesn't create nearly the mess that road tires do, and it's an easy alternative to keeping old tires around.

These tires are not worth the money that you spend on them. In the past I have used the previous seasons tires for the trainer. I thought that I might get more use out of these. Nope, get better use out of my regular road tires. These shed rubber all over the place. I have only gotten about 20 training rides out of these and they are shot.
