Scott Plasma Limited Triathlon Bike:
When Scott sets a goal they achieve it. When they set out to make the first sub 1000g frame they made it. When they ventured into triathlon they brought to the plate the Scott CR1 Plasma. It featured elegant curves, a slippery profile, and featured Scott's proprietary CR1 technology making it the lightest TT frameset on the market. To be honest how do you improve on a bike that rides buttery smooth, corners like a dream, is light as a feather, and slips through air? This was Scott's goal and in that fashion they achieved it with the Scott Plasma 2 frame.

At first glance the Scott Plasma 2 triathlon bike sucks you in. The white paint on the top tube guides your eyes toward the integrated seat mast and makes the bike look lean and mean. However the beauty is in the technology that makes this the fastest triathlon bike in the world. Our goal at Trisports.com is to guide you through the key fundamental areas in the design of the Plasma 2 frame to help illustrate that when it comes to getting to the T2 first there is no parallel.

Everything on this bike is designed for optimum aerodynamics while keeping the frame extremely light. In addition the frame needed to be as compliant as its predecessor the CR1 Plasma frame. Scott has created the Plasma 2 frame using their proprietary IMP5 technology which uses a bladderless mold that combines the headtube, downtube, and seattube into one piece. The rear triangle is then attached seperately. This eliminates the need for "joints" dramatically drops the overall weight while improving stiffness and compliance throughout the frame. To this day Scott is the only company able to accomplish this feat and continues to keep this under wraps for fear of other manufacturers mimicing their design.

The integrated seat mast further reduces weight and is possibly one of the best additions on any bike! Once you ride on an integrated seat mast your opinion is changed forever! It is more compliant. It is stiffer. It makes the bike corner better. Effectively you have a longer carbon downtube dissipating vibrations while helping transfer power into forward motion.

Another benefit of the CR1 Plasma and Plasma 2 frames are its adjustable seat angle through the seatpost clamp. The bike comes set up with a 76 degree seat angle, but flip the seat clamp hardware and you get an extra centimeter of forward adjustment and a 78 degree seat angle!

We turn our attention to aerodynamics. Some of the key features of the Plasma 2 frame is hidden at first glance. Only after looking from the front to the back do you realize the aerodynamic story Scott is telling us. Just look at the headtube, which is pictured to your left. It is has been designed to channel airflow around the front of the frame, thus improving aerodynamics.

Moving back on the bike toward the bottom bracket Scott has a truly unique design called the Speedskeg™. Scott has done two key things with this design. First the oversized the bottom bracket greatly increases the stiffness in the frame. Secondly Scott created a longer rear wheel fairing which was found to improve aerodynamics more so than if they placed the rear brake in this area. In contrast to their competition the rear brake is placed in a location that stays hidden by the seat stays of the bike.

Lastly, Scott kept the TwinTurbo™ chain stays parallel to the ground. This further opens the rear wheel fairing and guides the exiting air flow away from the axle. The horizontal dropouts allows you to get your rear wheel as flush against the fairing as possible for optimum aerodynamics.
